Sizzling Lunch

I went there on a Saturday for lunch looking for Katsu Curry. It’s in the Blossom Valley mall next to the Safeway so lot’s of parking. It was a little less than half full and I was seated promptly. You order by scanning the QR code on the table and launching the URL which opens the menu tab in the browser. I tapped the Pork Katsu with Curry Sauce and placed my order.
The interior is contemporary bench and table seating with wood furniture. It was very clean with staff frequently cleaning the tables and floor.
The curry sauce in a gravy boat came first. My food was brought to my table in a searing hot cast iron plate on a wood tray. The dish consisted of rice topped with corn and green onions, the breaded pork katsu, raw red onion and raw mushrooms on the sides. Make sure you stir the rice and vegetables immediately or the bottom of your rice will burn. I then poured the curry over my rice. The katsu breading was crispy but the cutlet was uneven in thickness so the thin part was dry and chewy but the thick part was tender and moist. The curry had good flavor and is not spicy.
I’ll round up to 4 stars and forgive the uneven cutlet experience, I’d repeat.
Kiddo impressed with the sizzling plate. The cheese corn appetizer was yummy!
Beef cube taste better than the slice beef.
They had Dad eat free for Fathers day!
We got the following dishes:
Deep fried gyoza – there were 8 pieces!! Way more than you normally get at a restaurant & OMG they were delicious. I could eat 100 of these in one sitting.
Takoyaki – one of our favorite dishes and they were very flavorful. Had a good amount of octopus in them and the batter was fried perfectly.
Tempura shrimp – fried perfectly and very flavorful
Garlic beef pepper rice – oooh man this was so delicious. The beef was tender and very fresh. This was a huge plate of food and definitely enough for me to take as leftovers. Mouth watering deliciousness.
Salmon pepper rice – the salmon was fresh and cooked perfectly in the sizzling plate. My mom added teriyaki and she was super happy. She’s pretty picky about her fish and she finished the whole plate…
Salmon udon – boyfriend really enjoyed this dish and also finished the whole plate. He said the salmon was super fresh, and he liked that they had options to add shoyu garlic or teriyaki to your liking.
Beef pepper rice – added an egg, mushrooms and garlic butter. This was an amazing dish and the add ons really made it perfect.
Honestly, I don’t think I can get sick of this place. The staff and owner, Benny are so incredibly nice and welcoming, and the music and decor make the place pop. Benny came over to our table multiple times to make sure we were well taken care of. Great atmosphere, amazing food, super nice people… what more could you ask for?
Cheese corn was super good too, but I think I like the cheese fries more.
I got too carried away from those dishes, I forgot to take a picture of my actual pepper rice LOL.
I got the combo, I think it really worth the price to get it. I can prob eat 3-4 meals with it. The combo also comes with a misl soup.
The teriyaki sauce and garlic soy sauce are amazing!!! Make sure you add those into your sizzling pepper rice!!!
I think the best value is probably get one of the combo rice, and add a lot more sauces that is needed, and then bring it home, diluted with more white rice. Because I accidentally add too much sauces and that’s what I found out I can eat prob 4 meals with it.
Their specialty is that they serve a variety of carbohydrates on sizzling plates, including pasta, udon and pepper rice. They have one veggie dish (tofu with mushroom, carrots and bean sprouts). Their salad portions are quite generous for $5 (compared with other Japanese restaurants). The prices are quite reasonable indeed, around $15-18 range which is not too bad in the current inflated economy. The portions are not super huge but they are quite filling. And of course I love the food as I love anything served on sizzling plates, they just have that great flavor. Their pepper rice came with a blob of garlic butter, yummm. A somewhat misleading thing is that they have teriyaki sauce and garlic sauce, despite its red bottle the garlic sauce is not spicy.
A quick tip is if you don’t want your carbohydrates to char (some people prefer that of course), just make sure when it arrives mix the food properly. For my veggie tofu dish, I made sure to get the tofu to grill rather than the rice.
I like to cook the meat to my liking before mixing everything together. Then add some garlic soy, and spicy miso sauce. Always hot and delicious!
The Mountain View location is smaller and typically less crowded than Cupertino, so it’s my fav.
Recommend and i come here regularly.
