The Crown Room brunch at Hotel Del is one of those little joys in life everyone should experience ar LEAST once!
I first experienced their brunch about 5 years ago. I took my then girlfriend and her mother for brunch. It was such an AMAZING experience that we have to go at least once a year!
They have a station for everything! I didn’t get a picture if every station because I didnt want to be “that” guy, but I got a few pictures to share with you guys.
It’s one of the best customer service experiences you’ll encounter. Upon checking in for your time, there is no wait period (Make a reservation!). You are checked in and then you are taken to your table by one of the many ready waiters/waitresses that greet you as you enter.
Once at your table, you are now ready to explore the culinary wonders that await you! My favorite section is the breakfast station. They have some brown sugar waffles that will BLOW YOUR MIND! fresh strawberries, whipped butter, berries, homemade whipped cream, and warm syrup are all there to accessorize your waffle.
From there you can make your way to the omelette station or go to the center and peruse the carving station. They have lamb, ham, and roast beef with some au jus and horseradish sauce.
My wife opted for the ramen station and seafood section right off the bat. With every round I did, I took a trip to the cheese section.
Theres also a salad area and a poke station. I wasnt able to visit them all, but I feel like I got about 80% so i was okay with that, lol.
They also have live music playing which was really nice. We asked to be sat near a window and had a nice view. You can also ask for the patio and will eat with a great view of the courtyard.
There’s no way you can go wrong with brunch here. Holidays are a little pricier than just your average Sunday brunch, but still worth it. You’re looking around $80-90 a plate for adults on a normal brunch and somewhere in the area if $140 for a holiday brunch.
Afterwards, feel free to walk around the hotel and enjoy the beach or just take a walk!
Parking is $20 for valet if you eat at the hotel. They dont have any parking unless you park somewhere nearby and just walk there, but that juice isnt worth the squeeze; just do the valet and enjoy the whole experience.

We love the quality and selection of this brunch, but would have appreciated a bit better service for the price. Brought six adults and had to make repeated requests for beverages. Still, there is something about the historical significance of this place that makes you relax and appreciate your surroundings and the luxury of this beautiful locale.

We have been coming to the Sunday morning brunch at the Del for the last 25 years. It has always been a highlight for trips to San Diego. The breadth, presentation and the quality of the food was always astounding. However, having spent $100+ per adult today, I was overwhelmingly disappointed with the experience. Although some of the food that was offered tasted good, some items like lemonade are now syrup-based drinks from the soda fountain. Hot chocolate tastes like powder mixed with water. The presentation and the variety has also dropped significantly since we were here a few years ago. There used to be chocolate fountains with strawberries, fresh honeycomb and cheese selections, fresh baked deserts, and huge paella spreads that were visually stunning and delectable. Now, the selection, display and presentation is pedestrian and the chocolate fountain has been replaced by a cotton candy machine. You pay more and get so much less than the last time I came. Therefore, the 25 year tradition has officially come to an end, which makes me sad.

Beware when reserving, that you get the right brunch! I called the hotel to book brunch 2 weeks in advance, and when I arrive and requested directions to the brunch we were taken to the Serea restaurant, not the brunch buffet pictured. The hotel did not provide any feedback by phone that there were multiple brunch options. I was prepared to spend up for the brunch experience pictured, but instead got an overpriced mediocre brunch menu. The $40 lobster roll tasted freezer burnt. The service was decent, but a little slow. Had I known we weren’t getting the full scale brunch I would have chosen a restaurant in town.

Our server Anthony was excellent, this review has nothing to do with him. The problem I understand was the kitchen. I had Greek salad with shrimp & they over cooked the shrimp (b4 coming to the table) & needed to redo it. Totally it tool 1 hours to get our food & another 1/2 hr for ice cream. Then there is the $35 valet parking charge. We obviously used all out time at the restaurant & did not get to look around the hotel or beach. A bit of a disappointment & hubbys food was cold but he was starved & ate it. I don’t think we’ll be back.

Went here during the first weekend in April to celebrate a special occasion. It is definitely the best buffet brunch I’ve had in San Diego so far. It is still a buffet, of course, and no food prepared in bulk is ever going to be as good as made-to-order, but they do a great job. For the money, the value is also good in that the drinks are truly unlimited, and the service is really great; most buffets you’re just on your own and they bring you drinks seldom and they’re mixed sparingly. This place doesn’t have those issues. If you compare to the quality and selection of, say, The Buffet at Wynn in Vegas, the Crown Room doesn’t really stack up in terms of bang for buck if you’re not drinking. The venue itself is really beautiful and classy.
