We had lunch there for the first time today and my wife had the pork plate with baked beans and potato salad. We ordered an extra side of Brunswick Stew. I ordered a Chef salad with grilled chicken. The salad was very basic at best nothing but iceberg lettuce a few tomatoes and the chicken was tasteless. I understand I ordered a salad from a BBQ place but I expected something with more flavor. My wife’s BBQ was okay but isn’t on the same level as other BBQ restaurants that are nearby. The plate doesn’t even come with bread. They charge for each piece of bread and more for Texas toast. The beans were good but again simple like canned beans that had bell pepper added. The potato salad was homemade but the potatoes were undercooked a bit and it lacked salt. The stew was good with lots of meat. Overall not a bad restaurant but not on the same level as 3 other BBQ restaurants with one mile of this restaurant. They still have not fixed the driveway since the last restaurant closed there and unless I’m missing something I am afraid this restaurant may not last.

I had finished up some business in Columbus and was about head home, but I was starving. I remembered reading some reviews of Cook’s online and decided to give them a try.
I wasn’t disappointed.
Wonderful, attentive service and fantastic food! They had some great specials, but I wanted to try a little bit of everything. I ordered the three-meat platter (ribs, pork and chicken) with sides of greens and potato salad. I added some Brunswick stew (one of the most mentioned items in the reviews).
Everything was delicious. The ribs were tender and flavorful, as was the chicken. None of the meat was dry or overcooked. The sides were wonderful, and the greens weren’t overseasoned (they did offer pepper sauce or Tabasco if you like your greens with a little kick). And the Brunswick stew lived up to its billing.
I topped it off with a slice of buttermilk pie and walked out full and happy. If you’re looking for a locally-owned place that has great food and tremendous service, THIS is your place!

I had the all meat platter. The pork, the ribs, and the chicken were all great. One thing that stood out to me was how buttery and awesome the texas toast was to compliment it all. Alot of places do not nail the simple add ons like that but cooks did. My wife had the butt fries and those were also very good. The childrens grilled cheese my son decided to let me have a bite of was also packed with flavor. I have been hearing the hype and I was not dissapointed.

Amazing food! I had the fried green beans, three meat plate and buttermilk pie. The ribs and chicken were spot on and I didn’t even add sauce! There was a great taste to the meat when it came out, so I didn’t bother trying to change it.
The only reason I didn’t finish my plate is because I was getting full and wanted to try the pie and it was soooooo good!!!
Sorry that I didn’t take a picture of the pie, I inhaled it before I thought about it lol.

Not sure where to begin. The meat was literally melt in your mouth. Didn’t even need to use my teeth on the pulled pork, burnt ends were so flavorful. Homemade potato salad was delicious. French fries are cut to order, fresh and not one drop of grease on a fry. Italian cut green beans my wifed ordered,which she normally don’t eat had her wanting g more. The Brunswick stew was definitely made with LOVE. I was give a gift card for Cooks and it was the best gift I recieved in years!! Only complaint…14miles from my house! I will be back MANY times. I met the owner,cook,maintenance man, janitor, fire stater and wood stacker..he knows who he is*WINK* Great service, Great food,GREAT PRICE!

Another day, another great barbecue stop for Barbecue Unchained. This time it was Cook’s BBQ in Phenix City, AL. Thanks to a co-worker’s referral, I made the trek down from my job site in LaGrange, GA to enjoy a late lunch just over the border in Alabama.
Growing up in the South, I came to love particular standard fare at my barbecue haunts. Pork barbecue with a little vinegar ‘bite’, crispy hand-cut fries, creamy mac n’ cheese, and banana pudding. I went with tradition since all were on the menu at Cook’s.
The food was fresh and fantastic, topped only by the kindest of servers who kept the sweet tea flowing. I thanked my co-worker for her recommendation. If you are ever near the Columbus, GA area, do yourself a favor and stop at Cook’s Barbecue. You’ll be glad you did.

I eat at cooks probably 2-3 times a week and it is always Damn Good Food. Ordered wings today for the GA Game and They were absolutely Delicious. Big and full of flavor. Thanks Cooks. I’ll see you again Tuesday. Levi..

Nothing special about the sides. Mac n cheese was dry, didn’t finish it. Coleslaw had too much mayonnaise. Grilled cheese was boring, hard cheese. Texas toast was fine, hard to mess up a piece of buttered bread.
The ribs were simply okay. They were a tad dry at first appearance. There is a house bbq sauce at the table if you wish to add some. Best ribs are still at the mixed dish in Columbus

I don’t mess around when it comes to my food. When I try a new restaurant I don’t ever know what I’m walking into. The first thing I noticed when I entered Cook’s BBQ was that it was very clean. Secondly was the friendly staff. We were welcomed the moment my husband and I stepped inside. The food was brought to our table in a timely manner and it all looked amazing. My BBQ sandwich was big, tasty, & hearty. The butt fries and potato salad was amazing too. Don’t get me started on the Brunswick stew. I’ve tried every bbq stew in the area and Cook’s wins hands down. It is full of meat and veggies. The flavor surprised me because it was that delicious. I recommend this place to everyone. You won’t regret it.

Hats off to the cook! Ribs were fabulous and Cooks BBQ sauce is some of the best I ever tasted! Service was phenomenal which is very rare today and very much appreciated! All dishes made from scratch and delicious you must try Cooks BBQ you won’t regret it!
