Reviews
Like many other reviewers, I agree that the food, service, and ambiance are top-notch. The quality of the sushi was excellent, and the chef’s skill was evident throughout the meal. However, I encountered a few issues that I feel prospective diners should be aware of.
First, at the start of dinner, we were asked if we preferred still or sparkling water. My wife and I each chose still, and they brought out a large bottle of Evian. We later discovered we were charged $11 per person — without any mention that there would be an additional charge. It’s a small detail, but at this price point, I would expect more transparency.
Second, after the Omakase portion of the meal, the chef kindly offered each guest one additional piece of any sushi they’d enjoyed most. This seemed like a thoughtful gesture, but we were later surprised to find that we’d been charged extra for that piece — again, without prior notice. For a $200-per-person dining experience, that extra should either be included or clearly communicated.
Lastly, while the quality of the food was outstanding, the portion sizes were on the lighter side, and we both left feeling slightly unsatisfied.
All in all, Mila Omakase offers exceptional food and presentation, but the lack of transparency around hidden charges added nearly $100 to our bill and left a bad taste in what could have been an otherwise perfect evening.
The highlights are easy to spot. The hotate is the star of the night—beautifully balanced, clean, and full of flavor. The sushi courses follow the same line: thoughtful, well-seasoned, and simply delicious.
But some dishes miss the mark. The A5 wagyu should be the knockout moment, yet it’s buried under too many competing flavors. It’s rich on its own; it doesn’t need all the noise. The matsutake course feels bland and out of place, and the quince gratin is so sweet it drowns everything else out.
The wine pairing is a mixed bag. Some pairings work nicely, others feel off. They’ve recently changed the menu, and you can tell they’re still calibrating how the wines fit with the dishes. A bit more refinement and it’ll get there.
So yes, it’s an evening with ups and downs, but overall it’s a good experience in a beautiful space. With a few adjustments, it could be great.
We were here with friends and spent a very good time there together.
One thing that we didn’t like, is that when we paid the bills, the stuff started to push us to leave immediately ,cause they were offering our table to other people.
Reiji and J.M did an excellent job of speaking through each item and were funny and lighthearted. The rest of the support staff were also amazing.
As I already mentioned, the food was incredible and I still think of all the flavors today!
There is a sake pairing that you can do as well with the experience- I would add it as it was well worth it.
I look forward to coming back soon!
