When you walk in the place is modern and nice. The smell of smoked meats hit you right as you walk in. But that’s what you expect from a good bbq place.
The meals were severely lacking and I will break them down. We got a 3 meat plate and a turkey plate.
First they weigh your meat out for portion size. The biggest problem is that the scale that they weigh it on hasn’t been cleaned since they started that day. I understand if there is a rush and a line but there were only a few people in there and bits were crusted to the top of the scale.
The turkey plate: out of all 4 meats we got the turkey was by far the BEST. Juicy and great smoke flavor. The sides were the downfall. Baked potato casserole was just okay. It was cold. The Mac n cheese was bad. Way over cooked, turned to mush when you bite into it and super bland.
The 3 meat plate: The actual plate was Chicken, Kielbasa and Brisket. Wanted to do ribs and burnt ends but the burnt ends were out and the ribs when they came out of the case were dry and shriveled so I changed because I knew I wouldn’t be happy. So with that being said on to this plate. The kielbasa was by far the best meat on the plate. Great flavor, a little dry, but all in all a pass. The chicken was very dry. Almost sand paper texture. But worst of all was the brisket. The brisket was dry and flavorless. There was no smoke ring to be seen and no seasoning to be tasted. Normally brisket is juicy and a little pull, this one was crusted on the outside because of the hotbox and the fat on it was semi hard.
The sides were Fries and baked potato casserole. Same batch of casserole so same issue but the fries could have been good. They had great seasoning but were super limpy. Plus the value is gone. 3 meat plate is 16+ you got 2 thin slices of chicken, 3 slices of sausage and 2 pieces of brisket. Really more like a sampler than a plate.
If I hadn’t taken Togo and lived so far away I would have gone back and asked for new or my money back. Just disappointing because I loved this place years ago and it’s just not up to par. I hope management will look into this and get the quality back. Staff was not super attentive behind the counter but when they spoke they had a friendly tone. A couple looked like they really didn’t want to be there but they are young and it’s a Sunday.
I will try again in the future and hope it’s improved
We ordered the 2 meat plate which comes with 2 meats, 2 sides and a roll.
For the meats we got brisket and pulled pork- both were cold and dry- small portions (seriously one strip of brisket?) served with a tiny 1oz cup of bbq sauce.
As sides we got:
Mac and cheese- this was obviously pre-packaged and pre-heated. It reminded me of the school cafeteria mac we were served as kids.
Baked potato casserole- cold and congealed instant potatoes that had a very strong onion taste.
French fries- fresh and hot; from what we witnessed this is the only thing in this restaurant cooked to order.
The dinner roll was as hard as a rock and cold.
I substituted my roll with a cornbread muffin which was dry, cold, and definitely pre-packaged.
Overall highly disappointed in this business and have no interest in eating here again.
