Ate here last night and this was seriously one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. So disappointing. I arranged a holiday dinner with 4 couples almost 2 months in advance so everyone got sitters and we were looking forward to this. Was going to go with a classic like Andrea’s in Waldwick (go there it’s delish), but decided to try Frank’s for something new. We’re a group that’s actually not hard to please. We just ask for normal level good service and atmosphere. This was beyond subpar. The service and atmosphere was so lacking it just ruined our night. I’m still bummed about it enough to write this review (I’ve never written one before I’m usually too lazy to do it).
I know it was not good kinda from the moment we sat down.
1. 8 people should be at a round table but whatever
2. 8:00 reservation and the lighting was bright like we were having lunch. We asked them politely to adjust the light and they were nice and tried but just didn’t get it.
3. No bread for like 15 min (comeon, really?)
4. Overall service just plain bad-we order apps and everything took forever (we wanted to slow roll dinner but this was slow not in a good way)
5. No host/hostess so no one is checking on you.
6. Food was ok. Not bad but not great.
7. The waitress was nice but hadn’t no idea what was going on. Left us for long stretches of time and was just a mess.
8. Never cleared any of the empty bottles of wine so by mid entree we had like 5 empties and old plates left behind from apps etc.
I can’t sugarcoat any of this. Overall, they just don’t get it. Atmosphere and vibe lacking in so many ways that we couldn’t relax because we were constantly having to ask for basic things. Really just remarkably terrible. Disappointing.
Comeon man….
Sat down for dinner and ordered our appetizers and entrees pretty quickly. For appetizers we ordered the calamari and the stuffed artichoke. It took 25 min from the time we ordered it to get to our table. We mentioned the wait to the waitress and she got super snippy with us saying that the artichoke is done fresh so it takes a while. Fine, we had wine with us and there was bread on the table so we waited. The apps finally came, the artichoke was delicious but the calamari was atrocious. There were hardly any squid just fried batter and the squid that was there was rubbery and undercooked. Not pleased but hungry, we dealt with it and ate it.
The entrees soon came after that and that was another issue. We had the blackened salmon, the chicken florentine and the zuppa di pesce. From good to bad: the blackened salmon was delicious it was flavorful and wonderful, the chicken florentine was alright, the zuppa was terrible. The mussels and clams in the zuppa were still sandy, the squid was yet again rubbery, the pasta was overcooked and mushy.
Don’t think the food is worth it here, there were some good points but overall the quality of the food was largely lacking.
They really need to step up on the seafood.
