This is one of those hidden gems. Upscale vibes with a lot of culture in there ambiance. The Honey Jerk Lamb Chops with the Crab Cake is My favorite dish. I came out to celebrate My Birthday for the first time at this location. We were greeted promptly as we arrived and the host was very pleasant. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very attentive and took our order and brought out water immediately. The food came out hot and very quickly. They have plenty of dining seating and a bar area separate from the dining seating. The music was good, made me want to dance. The bathroom was clean. The prices were on par with what I expected with a Upscale restaurant.

There isn’t a sign on the building, but there is typically a sign on the sidewalk. Parking is either street or nearby garage or parking lot. All parking is within a block. Service was fantastic. Loved the drinks. Hot honey old bay are reason enough to comeback! Enjoyed the red snapper, stuffed salmon with honey glaze, lobster, Mac and cheese, kale & the sweet potato pound cake. Looks like the brunch on Sunday needs to be experienced!!!

Nice ambiance inside the restaurant. The food was not cooked to our liking. The meats were overcooked and extremely tough. Ordered cream spinach that came out raw with cream sauce on top. The drinks were very good…this place is good for drinks but overall food wise everything was very underwhelming. The staff kept reciting how this place was a 5 star restaurant…workers wore regular street clothes and overall were not professional…didn’t fit the ambiance that the restaurant has to offer….nor did it give 5 Star. Our waitress was very helpful throughout the dinner with the issues that occurred with everyone’s meals and so did the manager. If you’re into aesthetics then this place might work for you but don’t expect 5 star meals/dining.

I went to Prim & Proper with my friend to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere was great. The piano in the lobby was a nice touch. The staff were friendly, but our server wasn’t as attentive as I would have liked. The food was good, but I was not impressed by the menu options available. In fact, none of the side choices enticed me to try them. Although, I enjoyed the pork belly appetizer. And the braised oxtails were so tender that they fell off the bones. The prices are on the higher end, and there is a 20% gratuity added to your check. Overall, dining at Prim & Proper was a nice experience.

I recently dined at Prim and Proper with friends and it was a mixed experience. Let’s break it down:

The Good
Vibes and Ambiance: The restaurant’s atmosphere is on point! From the chic decor to the cozy lighting, Prim and Proper sets the mood. I loved the art work which paid homage to some iconic hip hop artists. The music also consisted of 90s, 2000s and some current R&B hits.
-Service: Kudos to our server, Kevin! He was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. He MADE the experience.

The OK:
Food: I started off with the crab croquettes which were okay. The jerk chicken dish was decent, but it lacked that authentic kick. The plating was also a little messy.
The bread pudding for dessert was good!

Overall, Prim and Proper has potential, but there’s room for improvement. I’d recommend it for a casual night out with friends, especially if you’re into the vibes and great service. Just manage your expectations when it comes to the food.

Went there with a few friends to enjoy an upscale dining experience and was not disappointed. While waiting for our entire party to arrive we sat at the bar and had some cocktails. Each cocktail I and my friends had were superb, the liquors and mixers complimented each other perfectly. I’m a fan of sweet (but not too sweet) citrus and herbaceous or floral cocktails and each drink I had was a delight. Order any that appeal to you and you will not be disappointed.

Once seated we order a variety of appetizers, each appealing in their own ways. The lobster ravioli was my favorite. If the pasta isn’t made in house it certainly tasted as of it was. The texture was sublime, the lobster soft and buttery without that ocean taste you sometimes get with seafood, the sauce complimented it perfectly and the fresh herbs on top elevated the flavors and gave it a zingy freshness. We also got the oxtail French onion soup, not extremely meaty but packed with savory umami flavors, I’m not sure if the broth is also made in house and oxtail based but either way it was delicious. The burrata was refreshing and chill, an easy crowd pleaser.

For my main I ordered the duck confit. I admittedly glossed over that it came with foie gras which isn’t something I’d normally eat but it was delicious. I was eating it before I even knew what it was but it was sumptious with a meaty yet mushroom like texture. I’ve admittedly never had foie gras and I don’t know if I’d try it again elsewhere but I loved it here. The duck was well seasoned and crisp, beautifully plated and paired with the puff pastry and puree. It looked small in terms of portion size but was quite filling. If you want *a lot* of food I’d get the braised oxtail, big meaty pieces. I prefer Jamaican styled oxtail so not quite my taste but it is what I’d imagine as a French take on it and it was still delicious.

The staff was charming and polite. I rarely go to restaurants where they ask to put my napkin on my lap for me but it was a pleasant touch. The 3 hours we spent there flew by. Be prepared for a lengthy but enjoyable dining experience. This is not a place to go if you’re in a rush or find it hard to maintain conversation at dinner.

While I had a fabulous time, I will say the other restaurants that I believe are owned by the same folks, BLK Swan and Papi’s Cuisine, are higher on my list of eateries. The 4/5 stars is to reflect that I do enjoy those places more which also have similar pricing.

I expected more for Prim and Proper, but unfortunately it did not deliver! Firstly, I highly recommend Forest (server) and Angel (manager) for their exceptional services. Forest makes the customer feel valued. Their services were the reason I didn’t leave after receiving the appetizer.
The quality of the food was disappointing. For example, the appetizer hot honey fried chicken were flat wings with the bone removed. The pieces were fatty and indigestible. 10% were meat and 90% fat. Sauce had a good flavor. The Wagyu burgers were not infused with cheese and honestly by the texture and dryness of the meat; it was not Waygu. Look close at the pictures included. Fries tasted day old sprinkled with salt and garlic powder. Drink (no picture) was good. The prices did not match the quality of food. Please reinvent the menu and take ideas from guests and staff members! Peach cobbler breading portion was dry, lacked sweetness, and peaches were tart.
I will try brunch because I heard great reviews. If this is a fine dining restaurant why are fried chickens an option? Why were the jeans allowed for the dress code?

Went here midweek on a Wednesday to celebrate a friends birthday.

While waiting for the birthday girl to arrive, I partook in the Happy Hour specials and ordered the Pineapple Express with some truffle fries. The fries were just regular…straight cut, supposed to have truffle oil season but I wasn’t visible and I barely tasted it. The drink was lovely though’ made well, sufficient amount of alcohol.

For dinner I ordered the Fried Lobster Tail and wanted the broccolini, my Bestie ordered the Jerk Chicken Pasta and she too wanted the broccolini. They were out of the broccolini and we were bummed as we both really wanted to try that. According to the Bestie, her pasta was flavorful, she added on the crab fried rice and when it came out it was PURPLE. We were thinking brown rice but our waiter corrected us and said no, it’s really purple rice. I tried it and it didn’t give what I was hoping it gave, slightly mushy but no real flavor.
My lobster tail seasoning was a tad bit spicy and I added on mac & cheese when told about the unavailable broccolini. I’m not a fan of overly oily mac & cheese, presentation was decent but the oil was very pervasive.

I also wanted them to bring out a piece of cake for her birthday but they did not have any cake to offer. Out of the 5 menus offered via QR code they’re actually was not a dessert menu offered…

I will be going back to celebrate someone else who is already booked, keeping my fingers crossed for a better food experience. Our waiter (name starts with a D?), he was awesome!!

Visited this new establishment during Valentine’s Day weekend. It was amazing, elegant, dapper and all around black excellence.

The restaurant that use to be in this location was called Local, and the food was great then too. However the decor is vibrant with colors of yellow, white and black. The decor screams elevated elegance. The chandelier with black heels, the photos on the wall were unique, the open kitchen concept so you can see the food being prepared and the design of the floor tile tied it all together.

We had the lobster ravioli and crab croquettes as appetizers **chefs kiss**! The ravioli melted in your mouth and the breading on the croquettes as nice a crisp the crunch said it all.

I had the “proper old fashion” it was good it had the smoky effects for the dazzle dazzle. Handsome face had the peach drink, it was great. The also give you the option of three types of water tap, bottled or sparkling.

Now the main event was the entree I had the whole Bronzino with caper and a light butter sauce. That fish was cooked to perfection it melts in your mouth. The icing on the cake was that it was de-boned *praise break*. I think anyone that enjoys eating a whole fish can appreciate not having to pick over bones and can actually enjoy the meal.

Handsomeface had the oxtails which were tender and falling off the bone. Either broccolini and potatoes Au Gratin. We enjoyed every bite of our meal.

This is a place for many occasions, date night, girls night, business meeting, special occasion celebrations etc. they also have a full bar where you can enjoy cocktails.

There is a dress code to an extent but it’s not to strict. However men please be due to take your hats off before you enter the dining room.

Well y’all enjoy until next time.

This was my first visit to the restaurant. It was beautiful and had charm. There were pianos and pearls everywhere. The servers were top notch… shout out to Rashad lol. The food was exquisite. We ordered a charcuterie board for the appetizer; for entrees the jumbo shrimp with crab black rice, creamed spinach, and braised oxtails. Everything on the menu is à la cart. The cocktails were very good. I ordered the Flirtini and my husband the Smokey Agave Mule. I would recommend going here. It’s a little pricey but worth it. This is a fancy restaurant so dress the part. I forgot to mention the best part… the open kitchen concept. You watch your food being prepared from your seat.
