Will not go back and cannot recommend. Came to the store when trying to decide what to drink for Super Bowl knowing they would only have wine and liquor. The shelves were pretty empty in terms of selection and the fragrance from a lit candle was a bit overwhelming. We did a lap of the store and decided we wanted beer instead and headed to the door. We thanked the man working and told him they didn’t have what we were looking for when he asled, and to have a good day. We get out the door and he then followed us OUTSIDE and insisted we tell him what we were looking for- it’s below freezing with a wind chill outside. We tell him beer and again thank him and try to walk away, as we are now uncomfortable and cold, when he aggressively says “Don’t ignore me” and doesn’t allow us to walk away.
He then explains to us how beer and wine sales work in New York as if we weren’t from the area or didn’t know.
All in all, very uncomfortable experience to be followed outside an establishment, scolded, and then given a lesson. Thumbs down to this man.

There were 2 dogs in the shop and one of them passed on the mat in front of the entrance door as I walked in. They were barking and running free. Owner acknowledged that the dog peed and didn’t care. Gross!

I’ve never been treated this unfriendly or rudely as a foreigner in Albany for more than three years. I was almost confused about whether the employee is generally rude or hostile toward “non-Americans”. Her tone and the way she treated me were very coercive. I will never use this store again, but if I have to, I will avoid weekday afternoons.

The staff was incredibly rude, abrasive, and unhelpful. I ran in during my lunch break to pick up bitters for cocktails, and the woman at the register at first acted as though she had no idea what I was talking about. When I described what I was looking for, she insisted that they didn’t have any in a tone that suggested that I was insane for ever assuming that a liquor store might carry cocktail bitters. Needless to say I won’t be making a return trip.

I can see why this place is usually empty when I go there. Mediocre selection and very strange vibes from the employees. The first time I went there, I was ignored while the employees chatted and did other stuff. Most recently, I put my items on the counter and the clerk just stared at me saying nothing, as if I can read his mind. Maybe he was upset that I interrupted his phone call, which is all I usually see him doing. He finally asked for my ID, which I provided, then went back to staring at me and saying nothing. I eventually had to explicitly ask for the total to even be able to complete my purchase. It seemed like the employee wanted nothing to do with me and that I was bothering him by actually (*gasp*)… attempting to make a purchase! I tried this place several times since it’s closer to my house but I’ll just go to Empire from now on- not worth the aggravation, let alone the higher prices and lackluster selection.
