It was a nearly empty Monday night. We waited a minute before being acknowledged by staff and seated. The interior is spacious and bright. We ordered takoyaki, karaage, tempura udon and mentai cream udon. Enjoyed the takoyaki and karaage, however the mentai cream udon was a little too salty, even before mixing in the mentaiko. I was unable to finish it due to saltiness. Portion size was good and could be shared between two people. We did have to flag down a waiter for water when it seemed like they forgot.

Curry udon is the best. They have unagi which was great. No fishy taste. This branch is better than the others. Keep it up.

Great new restaurant for udon. Interesting mix of classic Japanese flavors to modern/fusion blends. Karaage chicken and agedashi tofu were perfect. Tempura gyoza was an interesting twist on a common dish. Clean, modern atmosphere inside. Cozy patio dining outside. If you’re itching for noodles, this is the place to scratch it!

Service was fast, especially with the never ending long lines (get there early!). The servers were fast, respectful and diligent. My water cup was never empty! Anything tempura I recommend, light, crispy and not oily. I got the katsu egg n rice with side of udon and it was perfectly balanced. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a solid meal. Also outdoor seating perfectly suited for pups!

Fried gyoza was a little stale. Noodles have nice bouncy texture and the curry has good flavor. Pork chop was a little dry, the tempura felt like it was not drained thoroughly/a tad oily. The chili paste they give you is nice, wish there was a daikon on the side to balance the oiliness

Almost my first time trying udon, and I absolutely loved it! We ordered the nabeyaki udon, and it was excellent. the broth was light yet full of flavor, and the udon noodles were cooked to perfection. The shrimp tempura that came with it was crispy and satisfying and not greasy at all. Would recommend this udon.

We also tried the seiro mushi, which is a complete meal featuring steamed vegetables, unagi, tempura, and a mini udon. If you’re hungry, definitely go for this. The unagi is served with a sweet and umami sauce. While I usually don’t enjoy sweet flavors in savory dishes, I still found the overall dish to be worth trying.

The service was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making for a really pleasant dining experience. The portion size is generous. The only downside is the wait: be sure to sign up on Yelp to join the queue, as it can get busy. That said, for this level of quality, the wait is absolutely worth it.

Came for the Grand Opening and the service was great! Everyone was very friendly and attentive.

The sparkling juices were a nice and subtle sweet drink. The tempura had a higher batter to shrimp ratio, but very crunchy and light.

The udon had lots of flavor and was very delicious. The spicy level is pretty manageable.

Overall great new addition to downtown San Mateo food scene!

Love this place! The food is very rich and sooo good – perfect for a special night out. We got two types of udon and corn tempura which we had never tried before and was delicious. The ambiance is really sleek, especially the bar area with its bonsai trees and mood lighting. I was especially impressed with how well they accommodated two young kids – they had bibs, child-safe bowls and utensils, and crayons for entertainment. The only downside is the wait because there is usually a line, but believe the hype – it’s worth it.

This was my second time dining here. The first visit, we tried the Mentai Cream Udon and Curry Udon. They were both were super salty, which kind of threw me off. But this time, they totally redeemed themselves. The standout dish of the night was the Spinach Salmon Udon. I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially with the bright green color, but it didn’t taste like spinach at all. It actually reminded me more of a creamy pasta, and it was surprisingly really good. The service also made the experience even better. The host and waiter were super friendly and had a bunch of jokes that kept the vibe fun and light.

We love this place! My toddler is a picky eater, but udon is the one thing I know he’ll scarf down. So I was super excited to try this place. We’ve been twice now and both times, the food and service was top notch.

The mentai cream sauce udon was good. Just the right amount of flavor and creaminess. I had the katsu donburi the second visit and it had so much flavor and just the right texture. The side of udon soup complemented the meal perfectly. We ordered the kids meal for my toddler and it was the perfect mix of things. The token for the gashapon was a nice touch.

We’ll definitely be returning soon to try the other items on the menu.
