Saltwell Farm Kitchen is hands down our favorite romantic dinner spot. We’ve been a few times now and it never misses. Just know what you’re signing up for. It’s about 45 to 60 minutes from KC, and you’ll want to plan on being there for at least three hours. Do not let this dissuade you from going.

When you arrive at the farm, you’ll likely be greeted by Jim, who might become your temporary dinner date if yours steps away for a moment. From there, you’re ushered through the open kitchen where you get a sneak peek at the magic happening behind the scenes. The eclectic seating makes it feel like you’re dining among family, and it somehow works perfectly.

Drinks appear quickly, and before you know it the courses start rolling out. Three hours go by in a blink, not because anyone hurries you, but because you’ve entered a magical portal where this moment, this food, and these people are everything you need. You can wander the grounds between courses, say hi to the chickens, and debate which dish was the standout. And you will debate, because the combinations are wild in the best way. Chili with toasted cumin icing (it’s been a long time since we had this and I still can remember the taste). Chicken pops with funnel cake. Sirloin with hibiscus. Things you never thought to put together and not only do they work, but later you will crave them.

We’ll keep coming back for as long as Saltwell exists. It’s truly special.

The sunset was beautiful on our short drive out to the farm from Lawrence. Saltwell Farm Kitchen is located on a dirt road, so just be aware of that when you are heading out. “Big Smiles Jim” is there to help with parking and to greet you upon arrival, which immediately set the tone for a warm, welcoming evening.
We were escorted inside right away to a comfortable 4-top table with unique china and silverware. This month’s theme was Celebrating the Food Landscape and Traditions of Kansas Immigrants, and it was such a thoughtful, well-executed experience from start to finish.
We added the wine pairings for $50. Tyler definitely knows what he is doing—each pairing elevated the course in a way that felt intentional, not just “a wine on the side.” The time between courses did run a bit long at times, but we were prepared for that and honestly it worked perfectly for our night since we were there celebrating with good friends and the conversation flowed. Overall, this was a unique, special experience and absolutely worth the money and the drive. Highly recommend.

The team works hand in hand and is extremely accommodating. The flavors of each dish will make you want seconds.
This is a very romantic setting for couples. Jim is a excellent host and Tyler will make sure all your wine pairings are perfect for each course.

Saltwell Farm Kitchen was an exceptional experience. Booking was easy , the only drawback was paying so far in advance. From the time we pulled into the parking lot and we’re welcomed, the service was exceptional. The facilities were beautiful and offered a very cozy and quaint dining environment. The table was beautifully set for our party, and the server was very helpful. The drinks were great, I highly recommend any of the seasonal options including the nonalcoholic drinks.

A couple items to consider, the location is very remote, but from where we were coming from required a couple miles of driving down a dirt road. Also make sure you have plenty of time for the dining experience, which took a few hours. The staff serves the meals to the entire restaurant Around the same time, so there is plenty of time in between each course to drink and visit.

I would highly suggest this experience and we look forward to going back when the weather is warmer and can sit outside.

My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary weekend. You need to book a reservation (which covers the the price of the 6 course meal). There are numerous add-ons available, as well as some amazing cocktail options to choose from, which you pay for after the dinner. Gratuity can be added there, but the “suggestions” for amounts only ties to the add on pricing, so just consider that when leaving a tip.

The atmosphere was AMAZING (we sat outside in the trees, under string lighting). The staff were all engaging, super nice, and extremely friendly. The food was top notch, and the menus change every month or so. The entire experience was just over 3 hours, so plan to spend some time. It was absolutely worth it, and we WILL be coming back here.

FYI – There is approximately one mile of gravel road you will need to drive on, so bear that in mind.

Not exaggerating when I say this was my favorite meal in 9 years within an hours drive of Kansas City. TL;DR – book a reservation here as soon as you can, you won’t regret it.

The service was beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. Personal, warm, and attentive. The entire staff seemed like they loved their jobs and were so happy to see us.

Ambiance was so inviting and felt rich without being snobbish. Music was the perfect level, temperature was amazing, and the lighting was enough to read but not too harsh.

And the food, oh my gosh the food. The wine pairings complimented the flavors perfectly. They accommodated my vegetarian partner PERFECTLY. We were thrilled to finally meet chefs who know vegetarian is more than mushrooms and onion. Multiple times throughout the night I said I would commit crimes to taste the food again (thankfully I don’t have to because I can book another reservation!) The focaccia somehow had a satisfying crunch and also melted in my mouth. We didn’t have to add salt or pepper to everything because it was all perfectly seasoned. And the dessert was fulfilling without being so heavy that I couldn’t walk after.

We will be back as many times as we can get reservations! Please do not miss this wonderful experience.

***For some reason google will not save my Food, Service, and Atmosphere ratings which should all be 5 stars.

I can’t say enough good things about Saltwell Farm Kitchen. From the moment we walked through the front door and into the kitchen, we were greeted by the chef and staff like we were old friends. The whole experience felt like a holiday dinner at a close relative’s home—warm, inviting, and completely relaxing.

The setting is stunning. The farmhouse, surrounded by a walnut grove and farm animals, feels like the perfect backdrop for a meal made with the freshest local ingredients. It’s beautiful and makes you feel like everything on your plate was grown just steps away.

The food was incredible. The focaccia bread and “liquid gold” starter blew me away—it’s something I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Every course after that just got better and better. They combined ingredients I’d never expect, but somehow it all worked perfectly. I’m usually pretty skeptical about fancy-sounding dishes, but this was next level.

The drinks were just as impressive. They paired so well with the food, and you could tell a lot of thought went into them.

Kitty, Jim, and the whole team were amazing. They were so knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. You could tell they genuinely cared about making sure everyone had a great time. It felt like they weren’t just serving food—they were sharing something they’re really passionate about.

At first, I wasn’t sure if the price would be worth it, but halfway through the meal, I knew it absolutely was. This isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience. And the best part? It’s not pretentious at all—you don’t have to worry about things like which fork to use. It’s just good food, good people, and a good time.

We ate indoors and loved the cozy atmosphere. Honestly, this was hands down the best dinner I’ve ever had. If you’re on the fence about going, just do it. You won’t regret it.

This quaint dining experience was worth the drive. Be prepared for geese and gardens outside. The cocktails were on point. We were served a 5 course meal with a starter of garlic foccacia. Every dish was amazing. There is a wonderful wood burning stove inside. You will feel like you’re eating at a house, and you actually are. Interesting art is spattered across the walls. Check out the pictures of the incredible courses. Loved it!

An absolutely incredible experience all around. The food, of course, was out of this world and provided new and interesting flavors that we loved. All of the staff was incredibly helpful, kind, and seemed very happy to be helping out.

The main dinner and dessert was honestly some of the best plates I’ve ever had, specifically the beef tenderloin. The seasonal cocktails were also awesome and we ended up trying most of them.

Overall, well worth the cost in every regard. This may have become my partner and I’s “most expensive cumulative meal” but it really is worth it for the experience.
