Bernard’s is a landmark cocktail lounge built upon precise cocktails that pay tribute to the past through moments grounded in the present. Returning after an extended hiatus, the resurrection of Bernard’s takes root in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, offering unforgettable experiences guided by knowledgeable staff, refined cocktails that each have a story, and exceptional plates of nosh. The aesthetic is inspired by the men in Coco Chanel’s life, with an equestrian influence that creates a room that wraps itself around you like a tweed riding jacket worn in the Scottish Highlands. Masculine yet soft, textured and warm, dark but welcoming. Let’s raise a glass to honor the past, live in the moment, and appreciate what the future brings.

Bernard’s is celebrated for its impeccably crafted cocktails, blending classic foundations with modern artistry. Each drink carries its own unique story, reflecting creativity and precision behind the bar. The curated spirits collection is extensive, including an impressive selection of rums and rare finds for discerning palates. Guests can also enjoy exquisite small plates and elevated “nosh” designed to complement the cocktail experience.
A special highlight of Bernard’s is bartender Kevin, whose deep knowledge of spirits and exceptional customer service consistently elevate the experience. His attention to detail and warm hospitality are just a few of the reasons we always look forward to our time at Bernard’s.
Whether for a refined nightcap or an intimate evening out, Bernard’s delivers a luxurious and memorable cocktail experience in the heart of Chicago.
It’s too bad the kitchen closed a bit early (10:30-11 pm) but understandable. Would love to come back and try the food.
Didn’t have food there (believe it’s just drinks)
The bartenders were extremely friendly and talked with us quite a bit, we were here around 8p on a Friday and they were not very busy but would still recommend a reservation. We will come back later on a weekend to see how it is.
Upon walking in we were greeted by staff who then walked us to our table. Once we were seated, our waitress appeared and discussed the various drink options. We finally decided on what to order and our drinks arrived shortly after.
Overall it was a great experience. The music was good, the staff were attentive and knowledgeable and the drinks were delicious !
