Today for brunch, my husband and I had the opportunity to try out The Phantom Cafe and I urge all of you to do the same. It’s located on Frankfort Avenue down in Clifton in the old Bougie Biscuit location. I’m going tell you right now that you shouldn’t go looking for a cool ambiance or fine dining. For now, Nick has some folding tables and chairs up set- up and the kitchen is clearly visible. He does a bigger business in pop-ups but don’t let this prevent you from trying it out (just call before you go, it’s a one man show for now).

Nick has recently moved back to Louisville from NYC and his life goal is to become a Michelin starred chef. He’s serving comfort food with a twist. I had The Original Pasta Bowl. It’s macaroni and cheese in a Parmesan encrusted bread bowl topped with grilled chicken and herbs. It was absolutely delicious. My husband had the Ultimate Clifton Club because he loves club sandwiches. This one had a grilled cheese in the middle along with ham, Turkey, candied bacon and pepperoni. He said it’s the best club sandwich he’s ever had and believe me, he’s had a bunch. For dessert we shared the Strawberry Shortcake Biscuit with a cream cheese topping. It was very tasty too.

Go check out this young business owner when you get a chance. Just be patient; like I said earlier, he’s doing this alone right now. I don’t think you’ll regret trying out this nice, up and comers food.

Very pleasantly surprised! Had the bacon veggie wrap and it was great. Real food, not just throwing some deli ingredients together. Bacon was AWESOME. Bread pudding was equally awesome. Will definitely be back!

Husband and I had seen a short on the news about the restaurant. We decided to take the children and go. It was six children, us two, for a total of eight. We spent right around 100 bucks and each got full and had a take home box. Portions are large. The food is amazing. It’s not just a tasty bite, you can taste many different flavors in each bite. I had the Kentucky Nick Brown and it was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. My husband had the Alfredo bread bowl and it was amazing. The children either got the original, the bacon broccoli chicken, or a wrap. They were all pleased with their food. As word gets out about phantom café, I believe they have a chance to grow into a more centralized area with a bigger place. This place is worth it 100%. A definite try if you are into some delicious meals. The owner cooked everything by himself and prepared each meal for all of us. I did think that he would probably take longer since there was eight of us but he had eight meals prepared plus dessert for all of us in less than 20 minutes. We were all pleased with the experience. We will definitely be returning!
To the owner: thank you for seating us and giving us laughs while watching you prepare the meals. I wish you much luck with your venture. I believe you have a hidden gem. Hoping word spreads and you get to taste the big life!

Man oh man! It’s like going to a buddy’s house and having them cook hot and fresh right in front of you! 10/10 banging every time. Soul bird, fantastic. Nick brown, out of this world. Past bowl, like wow. Don’t be fooled by the causal ambience, the food is gourmet and it is some of the best food around. Which is saying a lot in this city.

First time here and it won’t be our last. Don’t be turned off by the “dive-ish” look of the building, because the food was visually stunning and had the taste to match. We were the only ones there in the middle of the afternoon, which made it feel like Chef Nick was our personal chef. We enjoyed the experience of watching him cook our meals right there. We ordered the hot brown, a pasta bowl, and the strawberry shortcake dessert. We left happy and full with leftovers as well. I highly recommend this place.

The venue is definitely unassuming and still under some minor construction as it gets setup but don’t let that deter you from stopping by. I ordered the soul bird with an extra side of greens and was absolutely amazed by how delicious this meal was. Growing up in Mississippi and Tennessee, I have had plenty of greens and these were absolutely some of the best I’ve ever had. They were sweet and delicious to the last drop. The sandwich was cooked perfectly. The toasty bun brought a little bit of a crunch and the sandwich was a blend of sweet and savory. I highly recommend visiting Nick and grabbing some of his food. Amazing flavors!

We have been to this place multiple times and are always extremely impressed by the food. Everything we order we love. Most recently we went for brunch and got the biscuits and gravy and these amazing red velvet waffles. I forgot to take a pic of the B&G (which was savory) but did get a snap of these waffles (after I ate one of them). The food here is some of the best in the city and the owner/chef is extremely hospitable and talented. We will definitely be frequenting this place. Highly highly recommend it.

This place was awesome!! Chef Nick truly cares about his food and his customers. I had The “Louie”Ville Hot pasta bowl and absolutely loved it! It was so flavorful! The chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the smoked Mac and cheese. Will definitely be back again.

This eclectic cafe on Frankfort Ave in Clifton serves up a LOT of flavor and personality. We just stumbled upon it and have already fallen in love. Chef Mike is larger than life personality that loves his food and his customers. Be prepared for some daring flavor choices and a lot of food for a fair price. The 502 Cardinal Wrap is rich with savory goodness, and the Mac N Cheese was mind blowing. VERY different, and delicious. Seriously……go see Chef Mike at Phantom. Cool dude and a awesome food.
