I’ve never had Hawaiian food before, and I figured the 10 Buck Lunch Week was a safe way to try. The special was kalua pork with nappa cabbage and accompanied by rice and mac salad. I’m not a big pork person, but the kalua pork was very well seasoned, and if it got to be a bit much, the mac salad and rice helped balance it out. Speaking of which, I was surprised by how much I liked the mac salad. I am very leary about pasta salads as I find too often that they are too sweet or have way too much dressing for my tastes, but this salad was perfect for me. I am eager to try the other dishes now!

I was a loyal customer for years, but the service and food went so downhill. The workers don’t even know they have to-go orders until the customer gets there to pick it up. I once had to call the store while standing at the counter, just to find an employee to let them know I was there to get my food. I asked for a refund today and canceled my order, because the worker had no idea an order was placed. It’s not like they’re busy. It’s in the Collective, which has been notoriously slow since someone shot it up last May.

One of the best things going on in OKC right now is all the different flavors that are available to us. We have at least three different spots for Hawaiian food and I am not mad about it. Shaka is located inside the Collective and boast a small, but fun menu. I got the Da Kine Chicken with rice, pineapple, and avocado. The flavor was all there, but I actually wish this was a mixed up dish. The pineapple, avocado, and chicken all mixed together would have made me happier. That being said it is a solid spot for new flavors! Enjoy!

Last week, during Midtown’s 10 Buck Lunch Week (February 20th to 24th) several restaurants in Midtown hosted $10 Lunches from 11am-2pm.
My third stop was to…
Shaka OKC – I had Two Hawaiian Chicken Taco, Macaroni Salad + Drink. Shaka is located inside The Collective Food Hall. The weather was perfect, so I sat outside on the Patio.
I missed out on like 4 places but I’ll definitely be back!!!

Definitely lives up to the hype. Their Musubi was better than most I had in Hawaii. Their loco moco is out of this world. Definitely worth a trip. Don’t be distracted by the other restaurants in the Collective. This is THE spot.

I tried three restaurateurs at the collective. I had the barbecue chicken, which looked to be the best thing on the menu. The portions should be bigger: less than half of a cup of rice…..uh HELLO!… its just rice. There was a macaroni salad type of side that wasn’t that great. My boyfriend gave that a thumbs down. I love the concept, lovely Hawaiian dishes, but I would not buy again unless they twerk the menu.

Wow we wow wow!!!! Had the Loco Moco. It exceeded my expectations. First off the macaroni salad was delicious and moist
Second the party was seasoned very nicely and the egg was a great unctuousness that complimented the gravy. All in all I was full and happy and needed a nap.

The burger was very tasty. Tangy and sweet. Took about 10 minutes to get our food. Three macaroni was not good at all.
