Our story began decades ago when two friends who grew up in our home of West Portal, San Francisco, hatched a dream of starting a business together in the place they both loved dearly. They had an idea for a neighborhood center that locals and tourists alike can gather and make memories to carry with them long after they close their tabs. This dream came to fruition in 2022 when Unwine’d opened its doors for the first time.

Unwined is where Italian and Greek fusion comes together with a luxury modern atmosphere that instantly sets the mood. Low lighting, elegant corners, and thoughtfully designed spaces create an experience that feels both intimate and vibrant. What truly stands out is the wine service, it feels like a mini tasting at your table, with staff guiding you through pairings and helping you discover bottles that perfectly complement each dish.
The food is just as memorable. From the prosciutto bruschetta and tender braised lamb riblets to the Pizza Emilia Romagna and rich short ribs with pasta, every plate feels balanced and full of character. The night ends on a sweet note with baklava, ice cream, and classic tiramisu that ties the whole experience together beautifully
The everyday happy hour from 4 to 6 pm makes it even better, with $25 off bottles, $5 beers, and $2 oysters. Unwined is more than a wine bar, it’s the kind of place you save for special nights and return to when you want to slow down and truly enjoy the moment

Neighborhood gem with cozy tables, roaring fireplace, delicious Greek bites and deep wine and beer list. Try any of the fabulous flatbread (generous size – enough to share) for a meal, and the Happy Hour special is a great deal. Staff is super welcoming – they know the names of all the locals from the neighborhood. Private room can be rented out for events.

What an incredible evening at Unwine’d for their Champagne & Truffles night!! Every course was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious, indulgent, and perfectly paced. The wine pairings were spot on and really elevated the entire experience.
What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Everything felt seamless from start to finish, with such impressive attention to detail. You could tell a lot of care went into every element of the night, without it ever feeling stuffy or overdone.
Can’t wait to attend the next one! Unwine’d really knows how to do a special evening right.

Excellent wine bar. Food was very good, loved the tyrokafteri with pita and baked feta were phenomenal. Ambience is fun, not a stuffy wine bar…music is playing, good vibes, lots of groups hanging out having a good time in “lounge” (back room). Also has two person tables for intimate setting (saw several “dates”). Highly recommend.

Delicious – if a little pricey – Mediterranean food. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a reliable, upscale good time. Fantastic wine selection, we especially appreciated the old world wine availability.

Easily the most rude interaction I’ve had with anyone since moving to San Francisco a couple years ago. I cannot comment on the small bites, although the menu was a bit basic and not too creative, and the wine menu seemed ok. This negative review has nothing to do with the food or wine. I has to do with how we were treated when we showed up with our pups in hopes of sitting outside in the front where some bistro tables are set up. We were looking to kill an hour in the West Portal area and we were delighted to see tables in the front of the wine bar where we could sit with our dogs on the sidewalk. When we arrived we stepped inside no more than a few feet to get the attention of the one person working in the bar. The place was totally empty inside and the woman working there looked at us with disgust, I’m guessing because we were standing in the doorway with our two dogs – a standard poodle and a small havanese. We asked her if WE COULD GET A TABLE OUTSIDE. She was rude, said we could sit outside but under no conditions could we sit inside because we have dogs with us. Her rude tone and body language are really difficult to capture in this review. I looked at my boyfriend a bit shocked by her rude disposition as we never had any intention or desire to sit inside, which is why we asked if we could sit outside. We seated ourselves outside and she left us at our bistro table for a VERY LONG time without any attention. Eventually she came to take our order, and after we placed our order (which was also shrouded by her toxic energy) we asked her if we could get some water for our dogs. Her original look of disgust with us resurfaced and she said ‘yes, But you’re going to have to wait!’ in the most angry, stern, snotty tone I’m sure she could conjure. I was stunned. I’ve never had a complete stranger treat me with such unprovoked rudeness. We got up and left – i couldn’t envision getting through a meal with someone so hellbent on being toxic and rude. I will never go back and highly recommend anyone contemplating this spot, to skip it. Your dogs will thank you.
I am editing this review per the owner’s response below which is riddled with revisionist history. I’m very familiar with the health dept. regulations related to dogs not being allowed inside eating establishments. This is why when we stood in the entryway to get the woman’s attention, we said ‘we were hoping to sit at a table OUTSIDE.’ We did not walk into the restaurant with our dogs (which incidentally was entirely empty). We never asked or intimated any desire to sit inside. So, we were perplexed and offended by her rudeness, but still chose to sit outside (we should have just turned around then). She continued her rude streak when we ordered 2 Greek wines and the nail in the coffin came when we asked for some water for our pups. We chose not to endure her toxic behavior and we left seconds after ordering our wine. Wine nor food was ever delivered to the table. There was never a check to settle. She saw us leave after she snapped at us. So no, you can’t be abusive to your customers and expect that they will stick around. You don’t deserve our patronage, our kindness or our money with behavior like that. What a disgrace.

Unwine’d is a charming beautiful wine bar located in the heart of West Portal in San Francisco. The name itself, Unwine’d, is a clever play on words that combines “unwind” and “wine,” which perfectly captures the laid-back atmosphere of this cozy spot. The bar is owned by Dino & John, John was our beloved Orexi restaurant owner.
I had my 1st Greece wine in Orexi, that’s the time I knew I love Greece wine. Unwine’d had more collections of Greece wines. And last time I went for happy hour, there’s inexpensive oysters.
Love the deco.
Love the vibe.
Love the location.
I believe you would it as well.

Hi, we’re a local resident couple recently moved from London, UK to the West Portal neighborhood.
My wife was returning home from Church and was fairly decently dressed. She is very visibly pregnant and requested to use the bathroom.
I’m appalled at how rudely the woman waitress turned her away since she wasn’t a paying customer.
My wife is a person of colour. I’m surprised at how basic decency is not respected here.

The bartender/server was very upbeat and welcoming throughout our hours of visit. Reasonably priced at that! Octopus arugula salad was a tad overdressed but the orexi pizza was fabulous. I’ll be back! PS- I need go back Friday night and it was busy yet the service was excellent and so was the same pizza. lol. Their cabs are really good such that we ordered more and should have bought a bottle, that good!
