Me and 3 others came here pretty late and got drinks and some food. I ordered the potato perogies (really just because I wasnt hungry and didn’t want to only get a drink); they never came out and there was some delay for my friends food. The bartender serving us, Jordan, apologized profusely for the errors and offered us food on the house (that we ended up turning down; it wasn’t his fault).
All that being said, the food and drinks were great. My friends really enjoyed the citrus salad, half chicken, and focaccia! Jordan was absolutely wonderful to talk to, so friendly, and HILARIOUS.
The atmosphere was really nice and it was pretty quiet. The issues were handled easily and we enjoyed our experience!
EDIT: Came back for lunch today! Another good experience.

Ordered room service at the Joinery and highly disappointed in what I received for the price. I noted “gluten free” in my order notes but received two large slices of toast tossed on top of the rest of the food. Requested over hard eggs (an option in the room service app) but received runny yolks which were also cold. To top it all off, it was delivered in a paper takeout box with cheap plastic utensils – the grease soaked through the box onto the table. This was certainly not as advertised by the Joinery or the Christian James Restaurant and I won’t be ordering from here again. Very poor quality for the price.

We ordered the vegetable lasagna ( an entree – $28 ) as a shareable appetizer. Looked very good online. Totally disappointed because there were more puff pastry than vegetables with 2:1 ratio. There was a couple slices of zucchini, a slice of carrots and a slice of eggplant. We were very surprised. Pesto on the side was a good accompaniment. Bread was slightly stale , although the tapenade served as a spread was good. Chicken mole was well seasoned and delicious. Southern fried chicken was boneless and average. Served with pickled vegetables and biscuit. Biscuit was stale and dry. Service was good but slow. Each glass of wine took at least 15 minutes. Staff was friendly and engaging. The ambiance was very inviting.

My husband and I went for Restaurant Week. We had a great experience. Jessica was our server and made sure to check on us frequently. The French onion soup is some of the best I have ever had!

Kicked off Pittsburgh restaurant week lastnight and chose Christian James at the joinery , curio Hotel by Hilton in Downtown Pittsburgh. My two friends had beat me there for our 7:30 pm reservation and I saw they hadn’t been greeted or given water yet. I was about 15 min late to our reservation. Another 15 mins go by without being seen or waited on. (Mind you I used to work in the food industry so I’m usually very forgiving and patient when it comes to dining out) Finally the manager walked over and asked if we had been seen yet, we told him no. He frantically grabs our waitress in the middle of her conversing with another table telling her to wait on us (which I thought was pretty rude and unnecessary. He could have had this conversation with her in private) this set the mood for the rest of our night and we should have seen what was coming our way after this. She was embarrassed and very apologetic the whole time she was waiting on us. We were reassuring her the whole time that we all used to work in food and to pay it no mind. The manger came over with 3 free glasses of Prosecco to apologize for the wait. My friend and myself ordered from the pittsburgh restaurant week menu and her husband ordered off the regular menu. First it took a very long time for our drinks to arrive . Finally our appetizers came and they were VERY good. Another 30-35 min go by and my friend and I were served(by the manager) our main course. We sat there for a bit because our third friend still hadn’t received his food. Another 15 min go by we finally are able to grab our waitress and tell her that our friend hasn’t received his food and there were parts of my friend and i’s dinner that were missing from our plate (fried plantains). Our waitress then tells us they had forgotten to make my friends food and it would be out in just a couple more minutes. My friend and I decide to dig into our main course and AGAIN food was excellent . I got lamb and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Our plaintains arrive and UNFORTUNATELY my friends plaintains just were not edible. My third friend STILL has not received his food . We decided to tell the waitress that he would rather just not eat anymore and to tell the kitchen to not bother making it . They boxed up his dinner and comped his whole dinner. The manager again came over and gave us another free round of Prosecco. We were seeing other people complain left and right. A table next to us actually got up and left because of how fustrated they were.
We were there for a total of almost 3 hrs …..
All in all food was very good. Some mistakes were made. In the end this restaurant needs more structure and to keep the chaos behind closed doors . I would give it a 1.5 out of 5 stars. I hope this restaurant can get it together because they do have a lot of potential.

With Valentine’s Day coming up I reminded of how this place sold us a 300 single portion dinner that was the worst experience ever. Servers were crying the team fell apart. The food was awful it like didn’t taste good and wasn’t even the items they were selling us. The worst part is they didn’t even feel bad. Do not support this place.

Kim front of house
Was so incredibly helpful
Gave me a little bit of background regarding the restaurant since it had just recently opened
I asked what style of food was made at this restaurant
She gave a detailed explanation that it was global cuisine
Very very helpful and inviting
The wings were grilled & had such a strong bold flavor by themselves but it came with three sauces that elevated the flavor.
The Caesar salad was good
I would recommend asking for some more dressing on the side
The dessert
Ube Panna Cotta
Was such a great texture & not too heavy at all
I loved it
At the end of my dinner
One of the owners Kim came and asked how my meal was & thanked me for dining at the restaurant.

So interesting…. I liked this place when I saw it online. I like the ambiance a lot. Great design and cool concept. Walk in at night for dinner. And I love the music. (Deep blues). Long story short, the service ended up being poor. There were 3 servers and only 5 tables. So IDK what happened. I didnt get 1 of the drinks I ordered. My bill took a long time to come. But then this other server saved it and gave my 1 drink on the house for the mistake. The food was good. Ready quickly surprisingly. Hope they improve.

Tried their restaurant week menu over the weekend. I have to say the food was exceptional. Got the Brazilian Flank Steak Tacos as a starter. Lamb chops with Jollof Rice and Bread Pudding. I’m originally from Ghana and I have to admit the Jollof rice was very close to the authentic flavors.
Drinks were also exceptional, their Master Mixologist introduced me to a few drinks that I have never tried before. Overall great experience. Will go back for the next restaurant week for sure.
