excellent Caribbean food with an even better view right on Lake Sumter. This is a great spot for a nice lunch or dinner with available seating inside and outside on a large comfortable patio. The service was excellent and the food very tasty. It’s obvious the person in the kitchen understands the right way to cook Caribbean food because everything we had was outstanding.

Had a fantastic experience at calypso for lunch. Our server David gave great recommendations and i loved everything on the calypso platter. Calypso has a great view of lake Sumter. We were even lucky to have 3 beautiful women serenade the patio with Christmas music.

We stopped in last night to sit outside and get a drink. I went inside to order a drink since no one came to the table. I stood at the end of the bar and waited at least 5 minutes for the bartender to even look at me. I finally said to her, “can I order a drink?” No response! A few more minutes passed and she rudely ask what I wanted. I order two drinks and continued to stand there and watch her do the register and play around with receipts. A manager did come into the area and I did say something to him, but still no response from either one. I went back outside to our table and continued to watch her play with her receipts and register for another five minutes.
We finally got up and left and said thanks for your great service and she so rudely yelled back at us some garbage!
We left and went over to the Chophouse And enjoyed our drink! This was not the first time that we’ve been there and been Treated rudely!
It’s pretty sad because the location and the ambience is great!
I would think management would figure this out by now that she needs help behind the bar!

I wanted to share the joy we found at our visit to Calypso on Friday night. We went for a drink and decided on drinks and dessert. The hostess let us choose our exact table on the waterfront which always makes me happy – that’s a great start. Following that was Amy… a waitress to remember. She seemed so happy to serve us and felt like a long time friend the way she spoke to us. What a joy! I ordered a dessert that I didn’t care for and she wanted to help me make it better with a bit of ice cream. Then we discussed how she could advise people so they knew what they were getting if they ordered this dessert. Wow, that’s a person that cares about the experience of both her current table and her future customers as well! The steel drum music gave a great vibe on top of a lovely dining experience! We’ll be back and I hope we get Amy at our table again!

We had a wonderful evening at the Calypso Restaurant. Sitting outside on the patio, the views were amazing, listening to the steel drums made us feel like we were dining in the Keys. The food was incredible. We started with the shrimp ceviche then had a cup of their She Crab. Soup!! Wow!!! I thought we were in the Carolinas. For our entrees we had the Gulf Grouper and the fried Red Snapper. Both were outstanding!!! This is a great restaurant! The atmosphere, views, service, and food were 5-star!!! We will definitely be returning!!

Amy was our server for a party of 10. She was excellent keeping up with all of the drinks and was very attentive. The food was flavorful and good size portions. I had the Mahi sandwich and the portion of fish was very generous. I would highly recommend.

What a disaster of a restaurant! As a former Director of Operations at Marriott, it appears this restaurant lacks competent management. My group of eight waited twenty minutes past our reservation time, only to be seated at a dirty table with no service. We sat for another twenty minutes while the waitress stood at the bar fumbling with tickets. The restaurant was not full, with only half the tables occupied. When we approached the hostess (who was ignoring customers while rolling silverware) to ask about our waitress, we got the impression we would not be served. We left the restaurant and will not return. I’ve never been to a restaurant that is so poorly run.

Our bartender, Jacqueline, was so great. We felt so welcome when we stopped in at the bar for a drink. She was very attentive, friendly and made sure that all our needs were taken care of. The ambience of the bar was wonderful and the steel drum band made the night perfect. Highly recommend

The bartender Amy was alone at the bar, and she handled it beautifully and with a smile. She obviously had been left to do the work of two or three people, but Amy didn’t complain. She set to it and did it all. No patron felt unattended. Brava Amy!
