I will never say anything bad about San Dong!! This is one of my favorite places to eat in Houston, and I’m so glad there’s a location closer to me (inside 99 Ranch). Food always comes out hot and fresh. Everything is awesome here, but the potstickers (guo tie), chicken rice (ji pai fan), and braised pork rice (lu ruo fan) are my personal favorites. I wish you could buy their mantou here too, but they only sell those at their Chinatown location.
As an added plus, you can get a boba from Kung Fu Tea while you wait, but I’ve never had to wait long for my food to come out.

Traditional tasty and cheap eats in a no frills environment
Tried three dishes here (1) fried chicken cutlet rice (2) fried pork chop rice and (3) braised pork rice. The fried chicken cutlet rice was my favorite. The fried chicken is super crispy and juicy. The dish comes with steamed broccoli and black beans tofu dougan that you can pair with the rice.
There’s a central dining area for the restaurants in the cafeteria. It’s dimly lit with wooden chairs and tables and felt like it wasn’t the most clean but it works.

Delicious and cheap is how to describe this counter restaurant established within a grocery store.
The dumplings were freshly prepared and added to the soup. There was a short wait but was well worth it.
There are other restaurants around it if you want to pick up anything from them and eat at the common food court.

Fantastic price for fantastic food! The portions are generous and the food is hot and fresh. All dishes are under $10 with some under $9. My favorite is the fried chicken cutlet with rice (pictured). It always comes with a marinated egg, some veggies, and stewed mince meat/tofu to go with the rice. You really can’t beat this deal! I also really like the beef noodle soup, but would recommend eating this in and not takeout since the noodles will stiffen because the noodles and soup are separated in takeout. The pan-fried chive buns and pan-fried vegetable dumplings are also very good. They both have a crispy skin! The cold sides (tofu skin with celery and stewed peanuts) are also very good and garlicky, although there may be a smaller selection to choose from at this location than the one in Chinatown.
I grew up going to the Chinatown location and this 99 Ranch location’s food is just as good. Honestly a Houston native favorite!

We ordered the A15 – beef broth with 12 dumplings. It was good. We finished the whole thing until the last drop.

I grew up on Sandong dumplings and rice plates so when this location opened up inside 99 Ranch, I was ecstatic.
I’ve had almost everything on their menu but low-key my favorite thing here is their pan-fried chive buns. These things are filled with chives, clear noodles, dried shrimp, and scrambled eggs.
Their pan-fried dumplings will stand up to any dumplings in town. The steamed dumplings are no slouch either.
I was afraid it wouldn’t be as good since it’s been a minute, but I came by today and the food is even better than I remembered! I’m so happy that the food quality at this location is the same as the original location.
It’s located inside 99 Ranch, right between the Chinese BBQ stand and the sushi counter. Everything entree here is under $9 bucks. For the price, you can’t get any better than this!

The soup is very good. But they are stingy with utensils and napkins. They give you one small napkin and a small plastic spoon to eat a large bowl of soup which can get messy. I suggest you take your own extra napkins and utensils if you can’t eat with the chopsticks or the small spoon. Also, no drinks are served so you’ll have to buy a drink next door at the other restaurant. Or you can buy one at the grocery store or take your own.

Got the fish plate. Came with rice, tea egg, minced pork and pickled vegetables. The fried fish was huge. Good deal.

It’s very convenient to have San Dong in the area and located inside 99 Ranch. I love to order to-go while I shop. They are quick with their service. Easy to order and their menu has a good variety.
These are some of my favorite items. Hands down their pan fried dumplings are quite popular. What I love about this place is you get a good portion for a good price and the quality is always consistent. The set up of the place is food court style.
