Tried this place for my wife’s 40th birthday for 35 people!

Ronnie the Manager is exceptional. He set everything up and really helped ensure the celebration was amazing! And our servers Ben and Kelvin were extremely attentive, kept the beats coming, and forced us to eat ice cream! ‍♂️

Between the quality of the meats and outstanding service this place has my vote for San Diego’s best Japanese BBQ!

My kids took my husband and I here for a weekend lunch celebration. The restaurant was separated into hot pot section and BBQ section. They wanted BBQ so we all have to have it unless we want to split up and eat separately.

It’s nice they include lunch pricing on the weekend. The buffet area was clean and kept stocked. The meats we had to order from the server. Service was courteous but nobody was clearing our used plates so we had to move them ourselves.

There were nice variety of veggies, noodles, and seafood options. My kids will probably want to go back to try the new menu with wagyu BBQ

We came here at 4 PM on a Sunday and found plenty of parking. Last time we tried coming here, we could not find any parking spot that we left after circling a few times. We were seated right away. At this time, we only had the option to either do BBQ or Shabu shabu. One table cant have 1 bbq and 1 shabu. Our first order, we had the pork belly, brisket, wagyu rib fingers, and spicy baby octopus. The restaurant had a veggie bar, sauce bar, soups, & drinks area that is included with the AYCE. While we waited for our meat, we got some sauce, veggies, & drinks. After we devoured our first order, which were very good. We ordered the beef tongue and the wagyu steak. All I can say is, just the wagyu steak alone makes this dinner very worth it. It had the perfect marbling and it just melted in your mouth. They dont have many meat selections or bonchon selections. But the wagyu meat makes up for it. This is a definite yes on repeat visit. Just need to plan for when it’s not that busy to get good parking.

Great Sunday Lunch Experience

We had a great Sunday lunch here! The food is pretty good, especially considering the price compared to other AYCE BBQ places we’ve tried in San Diego, like Fire Spot and Manna. They offer great deals for Saturday and Sunday lunch.

There’s a nice variety of side dishes and drinks, and they even include ice cream for dessert, which is a nice touch. The staff are helpful and bring the food out really fast.

Highly recommend for a weekend BBQ outing!

There is a table that can have both BBQ and hot pot with +$4/person.

Firt time eating shabu- the experience was great! Food was delicious! Long wait in a Sunday, but worth the wait! We were told if we weren’t satisfied with the soup selection we could changed- no extra cost- I picked the mushroom soup and hicken (mushroom soup not too bad) but I need it more flavors on it-so I choose the “curry soup”- so I was brought a new serving of pot with my two soup selection: curry soup and chicken ☺️

Very good price for all you can eat premium waygu meats. Very simple and to the point menu. Only wish their sauces was a little better and they had one extra side like steamed egg or japchae. It’s just missing one or 2 things that would make it excellent, but for the lunch price of $35 and dinner for $40 you get your value. The parking isn’t too bad either compared to other spots in clairemont.

For the price, wait time, service and meat quality during our first visit; Kanpai is our new spot for Japanese AYCE BBQ!

We were there right before opening on a Saturday so there’s still spots for parking.
We did the BBQ. You can also have the option for Shabu experience. The assorted meats are to order. Service was quick, got our additional meats in 3-5 mins. There’s 4 dipping items/sauce available.

We ordered the following:
Prime Cut Steak- the most tender meat that we ordered so we requested it twice. Recommended!

US Wagyu Brisket – it was tender also and only took couple of minutes grilling. I like the amount of fat in the meat. It was delicious. Recommended!

M8 Wagyu Steak – another meat that we’re satisfied for its tenderness. Recommended!

We weren’t a fan of the Wagyu cubes..I had it medium rare hoping to be more tender but it was chewy same as when I cooked it well done.

Also ordered chicken karaage; it was crispy and well seasoned Sriracha Mayo.

Sides, “free” assorted drinks(soda), soup were available in a corner that you can keep going back. All the sides that we tried were all good; seaweed salad/cucumber salad/edamame.

Definitely will come back if we’re craving for Japanese Boq.
Our server asked if we need anything multiple times which is great. Great customer service!!!

Kinda unorganized. Came in today right before they opened, couldn’t get parking, there was already a line. 1105 got on their list, they didn’t mention a wait time. And when they finally got folks seated on their limited tables, all of a sudden an hour to hour and a half wait. Tried to call ahead to get reservations a few days back for Mother’s Day but no one picks up. But clearly you can make one coz these 2 tables have a sign on it. (There were tables reserved on the shabu-shabu side as well.) They said the reservation was for a group at 1230. So IMO they could’ve used this for a group the at 1105 when we were there instead of not using it the whole hour and a half. The waiting area outside is a 2 seater bench. Thanks to the flower pots we got a place to sit. Servers kinda didn’t care and were a lil bit rude, mind you they just opened, there was a group done with their table and it wasn’t cleaned up immediately even tho they have a long wait-list and limited tables. The same thing happened when tables around us were done, it took a while to clean, they took forever to set it up, and they didn’t seat the people in a timely manner. Ice cream was out, salad/shabu-shabu sauce self serve messy and was running out of some items. Food was good, but service was awful. It was a disaster of a mothers day. Thanks Kanpai. I would highly avoid it during the weekends. Maybe services are better during the week. As for now a 1 star for me. Maybe we’ll give it another shot.

Dinner was wonderful. 1st timer but service was excellent. Staff were really sweet and checked in often. Food was great. Loved the all-in-one cost for food, drink, and dessert. Coconut balls were yummy. Small seafood variety but it was enough. Veggie selection was good. Love me some enoki, wood ear mushrooms, & chrysanthemum leaves. Loved to unlimited milk tea (could have been a little stronger) and calpico. Will be back!

A friend recommended this place and this AYCE Shabu spot did not disappoint! The quality of the meat is amazing, the soup bases are really good, the seafood bar is good and I love that they include unlimited soda and jasmine milk tea, fruit tea etc with your shabu meal. They also have ice cream if you have room 😉 Ronnie the manager was incredibly kind and we love his staff’s professionalism and quickness. They have everything cut and ready to go which I think is a great concept since no one likes to sit for too long at an AYCE. The price is reasonable for the quality of WAGYU meats they have, we will def be returning back!
