If you asked me where DC natives are going to unwind with great food, live music, and a sophisticated/chill vibe, I’d have to say “1865: Steak, Seafood & Cigars”. I decided to check out the relaunch of 1865 located in Northeast DC at Rhode Island Row and it did not disappoint. We had early reservations for dinner at 7:30pm before the live band started around 9pm. Service slows down a bit as the crowd develops but we had “Jerome” from the hit show “Martin” to entertain us. After a few packed sets, we decided to check out the cigar lounge area on the other side and it was equally amazing. For it to be a cold Wednesday evening, the place was jam packed and filled with DC love and culture. The absolute highlight for me were Go-Go bands, the Love Rolls and the Jerk Wings. Here’s what we ordered:

Cocktails:
1865 Ol’ Fashion: 5/5

Appetizers:
Oysters: 4/5
Jerk Wings: 5/5 ⭐️
Love Rolls: 5:5 ⭐️

Dinner Entrees:
Owner’s Special: 4/5
Chilean Sea Bass: 4/5
Branzino Whole: 4/5

This New Black-Owned Restaurant Is Huge, Beautifully Decorated, & Full Of Culture. From The Moment You Walk In, You Feel The Energy. The Wall Paintings & Music References Honoring Black Artists & Culture Were Everything. It’s Not Just A Restaurant It’s An Experience.

The Entire Space Is Well-Kept, Clean, & Truly Admiring. Even The Bathrooms Were So Pretty, Definitely Thoughtfully Designed.

Parking Is Nearby With Plenty Of Storefront Options Around The Area, So It Was Easy To Find A Spot.

BRUNCH BUFFET (Served Until 5 PM)
We Came For Lunch On A Saturday Afternoon & Enjoyed The Brunch Buffet & When I Say Huge Selection, I Mean Huge.

Buffet Items Included: ( )
Baked Mac & Cheese, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Whiting Fish, Shrimp, Pancakes, Waffles, Rice, Wings, French Toast, Potatoes, & So Much More.

But That’s Not Even The Best Part….
They Also Bring Out Endless (Upon Request):
Crab Legs, Salmon Cakes, Mussels, Fresh Fruit, & Made-To-Order Omelettes. On Top Of That, You Get Unlimited Fountain Drinks, Mimosas, & Juices.

It’s Between $75–$100 Per Person With Unlimited Seafood, Made-To-Order Options, & Drinks (Excluding Cocktails/Shots), It Felt So Worth It. There’s Also A Service Fee Added So Don’t Be Surprised, Honestly That Fee Is Starting To Seem Standard In DC Restaurants.

The Food Was Delicious With So Much Variety. Everything Felt Fresh & Well-Seasoned. You Definitely Get Your Money’s Worth.

**There’s A 90-Minute Seating Limit, Which Was More Than Enough Time To Eat Comfortably And Enjoy The Ambience.

There Was A Live Band Playing, An Area To Dance, Multiple Bars, & Plenty Of Seating. The Music Was Loud In A Good Way A Whole Vibe. We Were Seated In A Section That Was Less Crowded, Which Was Perfect For Me. There’s Also An Upstairs Area I’ll Have To Check Out Next Time.

Our Waiters Were Amazing & Pleasant. Even With The Place Being Busy, They Checked On Us Consistently. I Loved How They Kept Bringing Us Crablegs As We Requested. :))

A Special Shoutout To Khave’, The Owner/Chef’s Son. He Personally Came To Our Table, Introduced Himself, & Made Sure We Were Good. He Accommodated Us Gracefully & Was So Pleasant To Talk To. That Personal Touch Made The Experience Even More Memorable. I Truly Appreciate His Convo & For Going Above & Beyond For Us.

This New Spot Is More Than Just A Restaurant, It’s A Celebration Of Culture, Food, & Community. Beautiful Space, Delicious Food, Live Music, Amazing Service.

Definitely Highly Recommended To Come Out & Support. We Will Absolutely Be Back Soon.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at 1865 Steak & Cigar, and I can’t say enough good things about this place. Even though my party arrived late, the staff was still incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate us without any hesitation. That alone speaks volumes about their professionalism and hospitality.

The atmosphere is classy, grown, and perfect for celebrations. From the moment we were seated, everything felt intentional and top-tier. But let me be very clear ask for Nae. Her drinks are AMAZING (crafted perfectly, flavorful, and strong in the best way), and her customer service is unmatched. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure our entire experience felt special. Truly one of those people who elevates the whole night.

If you’re looking for a place with great vibes, excellent service, and a staff that genuinely cares about your experience, 1865 Steak & Cigar is it. I’ll definitely be back and I’ll be asking for Nae every time

Very lively place. Almost forgot it was a Sunday evening. Food was outstanding. Service was great. The DJ was on point. Wouldn’t consider this a kid friendly spot/atmosphere. DJ will play uncensored songs so keep that in mind. Music is loud and it isn’t lower sitting in the mezzanine. Overall, great place for food, drinks and music. Excellent place for a girls or guys night out. Will return with the fellows next time.

Beautiful décor with African American artwork and a great vibe from the live band and DJ. The hostess was friendly, and the wait wasn’t bad. The crowd was mixed..no clear dress code. My first blackened salmon was dry, but the second (medium well) was much better. We ordered margaritas, and they weren’t great. Prices didn’t match the menu, and there’s a credit card fee…bring cash. Great atmosphere, but food, drinks, and billing need improvement.

I CANNOT express enough the amount of gratitude me and my event partner have for 1865 DC! Where do I begin:

Their Caesar Salad, Chicken Wings (Mumbo + Honey Garlic) and French fries are to die for. Not a crumb left!

And on top of that, their staff were the most kind & helpful human beings; we truly & graciously appreciate everything ya’ll did for us.

Thank you again to 1865 DC and looking forward to dining there again!

Alright cousins, Doc stepped into 1865 Steakhouse today and let me give you the rundown. ️

The vibe was cool. Service moved a little slow at times, but everyone was kind and welcoming. The aesthetic looked like what every spot in DC is going for lately, but this one had a warmer and more homely feel that I cannot quite explain. Almost like modern chic with comfort auntie energy tucked in the corners.

Now for the food.
I ordered the oxtail and grits. The oxtail was tender and cooked well, but the dish overall tasted like stewed oxtail placed over very salty grits. Not terrible, just not my palate’s type of champagne. I can see how it might hit for the demographic they cater to because it was seasoned heavily and confidently. For me, it was a little much, but I will not knock what someone else may love.

Started with a margarita, which was tasty and balanced. Then the bartender slid me a mystery drink. I cannot tell you what it was, but I can tell you the pour was generous and worth the coin. They do not cheat you on the liquor.

Overall, I am giving 1865 a solid 6.5. Nice people, decent drinks, cool vibe, and food that has potential depending on your taste preferences. Not bad, not great, just respectfully somewhere in the middle.

If you are in the area, it is worth a try. Just know your taste buds may or may not clock in for the shift.

Tell them Doc is keeping it real as always.

Attended 1865 last Friday when walked in was greeted by a host lovely young lady think her name was Nadia she had beautiful gray hair. She ask where I would like to sit told her the bar so she pointed me too two inside. I decided I wanted to go to the bar in back because of the gold tone. She personally walked me to the back bar and introduce me to the bartender name Ron. There I had the delicious jerk wings and rum punch which even made a better experience thanks to the host and staff for such an amazing time.
