I’ve walked by Mills Alley multiple times and I had no idea it was a Japanese restaurant until I went with a group! They’ve got a great lunch menu with quite a bit of variety. They have a good selection of sushi and fish, I went with the Kobe teriyaki chicken lunch meal and you get miso soup, rice, salad, and of course chicken. The kitchen was quick, didn’t take long for food to come out at all. The wait staff service won’t blow your socks off so maybe lower expectations just a bit. Would recommend if you’re in the downtown area!

Loved the food. Delicious. Staff were very friendly and professional. We tried the dishes based on their recommendations and it was real good. Foods were served quickly. There was a fire alarm going on. so they had to move us in the outside area and offered us a free ice cream on the house. It was very generous of them. Highly recommended and will definitely be back again.

The service is excellent. Multiple waitresses asking if you need anything. The food is beautifully presented and tasted great. But it’s a little pricey. My main gripe was the rice with spicy tuna for $30. It was good but way overpriced. The tempura was very well cooked and the sushi was good. Beautiful restaurant as well.

I went there for the first time because of a friend’s recommendation, and I liked the open kitchen and the clean and simple cafe style, not like other izakaya style. It was nice to be greeted at the open sushi bar. The food was reasonably priced and I thought it was worth the price when the food came out. The quality of the food was very good, it was very flavorful, and it was delicious. I think the quality of food is more important than the price. I went for lunch this time, but next time I will go for dinner. I recommend this place if you want to eat good quality and delicious sashimi, sushi, and Japanese food.

Been here many times but this is the first time sit at the sushi bar. Get to meet the owner Jun, and all his staff are as friendly as himself, taking pride in serving. I always order the same Chirashi bowl and they maintain the quality and consistency. The ingredients are always fresh, it might not be the same type of fish but I rest assured it is always fresh.

I will be sure to return next time.

Tired of the same old Japanese dining experience in old town? Head to Mills Alley for an authentic taste that truly surprises. Despite the non-Japanese name, the culinary experience here is nothing short of extraordinary.

Having visited twice, our Valentine’s Day indulgence featured a special menu with standout items. The Fresh Oyster with Uni stole the show, a luxurious splurge worth every bite. The Pandora Box offered a delightful surprise in each mouthwatering morsel. The Beef Tatakai was a melt-in-your-mouth sensation, and the Tuna hand roll showcased a mysteriously fantastic preparation.

Other highlights included the mini udon kaizen with its exquisite sesame oil infusion and the mini garlic-seared salmon don, where surprise garlic bits complemented the fish perfectly. While the mentaiko cream udon leaned towards the heavier side, it maintained its distinct flavor profile.

On the regular menu, the tempura, although good, took a backseat compared to the other unique dishes. The standard ice cream rounded off the meal with nothing noteworthy.

During our second visit, the pork katsu don and Oden nabe proved solid choices for a regular dinner, but not necessarily for impressing. The service and ambiance create an ideal setting for a dinner date, and for those eyeing the omakase experience, a reservation a week in advance is recommended.

As a bonus, knowing they share ownership with Urban Pocha, one can’t help but crave their fried chicken gizzard, wishing it could make its way to Mills Alley.

Located in Fair Oaks in Old town Pasadena. Dining area is spacious. It appears they are still doing a soft opening.

I came on a weekday night, and the restaurant had maybe 3 tables including our party. There was only 1 server for the night. With her being so busy, it took a little while to get her attention. Our server is very nice when we get to talk to her, but just a bit hard to get her attention at times.

We ordered dishes based on our servers recommendation. The notable dishes are the Chirashi. Most sashimi from the Chirashi arw fresh. The scallop is especially fresh and sweet! Other than that, other items are just decent. We also had the unagi crab hand roll… which we felt the unagi favor totally covered the taste and texture of crab… making them not too compatible together. Presentation of food is nice and picture worry. Cost of food is decent based on restaurants in Pasadena.

I recently dined at Mills Alley and was blown away by the experience. The Garlic Chicken Karaage was a flavor explosion – crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of garlic to elevate the dish without overpowering it. The Beef Tataki was equally impressive, perfectly seared with a melt-in-your-mouth texture and complemented by a delicious ponzu sauce. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the staff was attentive and friendly. This has quickly become my go-to spot for Japanese cuisine. Highly recommended!

The sashimi is the best my sister and I have ever had! The hand rolls were also fresh and well balanced. The downside was the pork in the Tonkotsu ramen was overcooked and chewy and overall a bit too salty. Our server was also very sweet but did not check in on us during our meal and forgot some side requests. But overall very fresh sushi and a good vibe 🙂
