Outstanding BBQ. We tried to have a wonton noodle lunch the Sam Woo BBQ inside Del Mar Plaza, but it changed ownership.

We ordered the wonton noodle and the 2 BBQ items platter. The first bite of my wonton was fishy. Maybe 1 bad shrimp, but the other wontons were okay. The noodles were good, but not as good as the Sam Woo on Las Tunas Blvd (next to 168 Supermarket) and the wontons were not as good as Cafe Spot (across from Garden Cafe’) on Baldwin. Good, but not great.

What was Excellent was the BBQ dishes. The pork skin was so crispy and tasty. Perfect. The BBQ duck was also very very good. The BBQ dishes were flavorful and made up for the somewhat bland wonton noodle dish.

I’ll be back for more.

Located in the 99 Ranch plaza.
I remember when this plaza was nice and new. It’s deteriorated over the years. I believe this restaurant used to be Sam-woo express.

Unfortunately, There are now many vacant stores.
It appears they’re trying to refinish the plaza.

There’s plenty of free self parking.

The restaurant is clean but could use a bit of refurbishing.

The staff was friendly and attentive.

The menu has lots of yummy Cantonese dishes to choose from.

We were there for a friend’s birthday party so we ordered lots of dishes to sample and share (family style).

Portions are generous and prices are reasonable.

We stay in Beverly Hills when we’re in L.A., and even though this restaurant is about a 40-minute drive (without traffic), we make a point to come here every time we’re in town. It’s that good.
The menu is extensive, and they’re flexible—you can special order certain dishes, which we really appreciate. A friend of ours is a regular here, so we know the quality is consistently high and the ingredients are always fresh.
The service is super friendly and welcoming—it honestly feels like visiting family. It’s one of those places where you can relax, enjoy great food, and feel right at home.

This is my most memorable Chinese food I tried in my 5 trips to US! It’s even better than many of the Chinese restaurants back in Singapore (where Chinese are the majority).

The portion is as usual huge, similar to other eateries in US.

I initially only ordered the 双拼饭, with roast duck and roast pork as the 双拼, as I was not sure how good will it be. Turns out the roast duck was really very good! The roast pork was not bad as well.

With my appetite whetted, I later added a wanton soup. The wanton was quite huge and the fillings were very generous. The soup was also very tasty.

Highly recommend this place.

Sam Woo has been our go to restaurant for HK food. There are several of them in the San Gabriel Valley. This location used to house one of them. This Sam Woo became the victim of the pandemic and closed its doored a few months ago.

When I saw fellow Yelpers talking about a newly opened HK cafe restaurant at this location, I decided to give it try. I was not disappointed with the food and service.

Unlike the previous occupant, the newly remodeled restaurant is bright and clean. The staff are definitely friendlier and helpful.

The foods were delicious and better than Sam Woo. We had two dishes for lunch. Since the first thing you see when come in to this restaurant is the BBQ section, we had to order two BBQ meats. The meats were tender and flavorful. I would say the taste is above average. But the Chinese broccoli with dried fish was fantastic and full of wok hei. The authentic HK cooking style showed up on this dish, definitely recommend getting this one for HK food lover.

With the new owner, the prices had gone up too. For the two meat BBQ dish, the price had gone up to $15 compared to Sam Woo at $12. But I think it’s still worth coming here to indulge in HK food in order to satisfy your craving.

Three stars only for the OKish food. 0 star for its customer service! As we are not from the US, they threatened to throw us out if our tip doesn’t reach 20%! Another friend of mine erroneously ordered takeaway food at the counter, but before paying they wanted to switch to dine in. The guy at the counter was extremely rude, refused their request, and threw them out! Actually I felt really disgusted by their services and wanted to pay ZERO tip, and I was forced to pay a lot!

Just want to warn everyone who plans to eat here: if you want to have a happy meal, stay away from this restaurant.

Good Hong Kong barbecue/ Chinese food. Their “Roast Duck with Black Truffle” is extraordinary and must try. Everything else is decent/ average. Good portion for the price, as is everything in this area. Expect to pay about $25-30 per person. I only recommend coming here for the “Roast Duck with Black Truffle” to-go.

This used to be Sam Woo and usually my quick go to place for Chinese BBQ pork. I love many of their dishes here and the seafood congee is surprisingly good! Price is on the higher end but it is still reasonable considering the size of the dishes.

If you don’t speak chinese they will be very mean to you. Not just to me but two others that walked in. Recommended by locals so I thought I would try it. Confusing were to order carry out. Lady behind counter yelled at me in Chinese while I ordered pointing at menu. Pork was dry, ribs were mainly bone and chow main noodles burnt. Many other options, I will avoid ever walking in again.
