The Market Cafe is a casual Italian restaurant and retail food market, open for lunch and dinner. The lunch menu (11:30-2:00pm) offers sandwiches, salads, pasta and pizza as well as meat and seafood creations. For dinner (4:30-8:30pm), The Market becomes a cozy Italian trattoria boasting artisan pizzas, salads, and smaller portions of our acclaimed pasta, veal, meat, and seafood dishes. Happy Hour (4:30-5:30pm) features specially priced cocktails and appetizers. Our retail offerings include many gourmet items, fresh cheeses, meats, breads, pasta and heat-and-serve entrees. Selections include everything from house-made pasta, handcrafted sauces and soups, to imported olive oils, tomato products, balsamic vinegars and house-made desserts.

What a find! We wanted to eat Italian for lunch and made it just in time before the kitchen was closing. To start, the staff was very welcoming despite us walking in so late. We ordered a Cesar salad, vegetarian pizza, couple of seafood pastas and 2 desserts. Everything was phenomenal. So good that my wife made me bookmark this place so we can come back here on our next visit. The ambience is great, feels very authentic. The servers were very friendly and accommodated our vegetarian requests (for my parents). I wish them well and hope they continue to serve and thrive in Hilton head for a long time.

Before I get into details, I would like to say that the overall experience of this place is amazing. Food is delicious great atmosphere and super welcoming staff. I would highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for Italian food.
We attended this restaurant for our anniversary. We were welcomed with Prosecco, which was on the house very nice and sweet start to our meal. For our starters we ordered the sausage and peppers and the baguette. The sausage and peppers were so flavorful the sausage really burst in your mouth and had just the perfect amount of seasoning but yet we’re super juicy. It did not get lost in the sauce, which it was served in. The baguette was warm when it was served, and the olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette was very sweet and balanced out the cheese which was sprinkled on top of the baguette.
For our main meals my husband got the pasta special. Which was a pesto cream spaghetti with sweet peas and teardrops. It was served with seasoned shrimp. This pasta was amazing. It was a more thicker and richer pasta dish reminded me of the thickness of almost like fettuccine, but on a different level. The snow peas and a teardrops were chef kiss to the whole meal.
I ordered the Eliocoidali Alla Boscaiola. This was a very rich pasta. It was hands-down one of my favorite pastas I’ve had in a long time. It had mushrooms and a meat. It was both light yet very flavorful. A lot lighter than our second pasta dish, but jampacked with flavor.
We ended our dinner with some tiramisu. This restaurant does tiramisu very uniquely as it was paired with fruit and a caramel drizzle on top. It was such a light tiramisu and weirdly enough and really cleansed her stomach so we no longer felt full. I felt like I could have two more servings of the tiramisu and went really well with the blackberries and strawberries very unique taste take on the classic tiramisu.
The staff was very attentive and came to our table multiple times to check on us and just make sure our meals were to our satisfaction. The place has a wonderful atmosphere, very homey, small, and intimate. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. The pasta is fresh and delicious.

Excellent food and service! Stopped in for a quick lunch close to closing and they were more than accommodating. Pizza, salad, dessert. Couldn’t have been better!

Both the food and service at the Market Cafe are top notch. The calamari appetizer was served hot (i.e., freshly cooked) with an excellent spicy arrabbiata (actually spicy). What truly impressed me was the Tagliatelle Neri (squid ink pasta in a spicy cream tomato sauce with bay scallops and shrimp). The pasta was clearly homemade and cooked perfectly. The flavor was outstanding and this dish was also served hot. The servers were attentive without being annoying. Our water glasses were kept full. Prices were reasonable, particularly given the quality of the food. My only knock on this restaurant is that their “baguette” is a baguette-shaped ciabatta (or a close cousin). Perhaps the regular patrons of this restaurant prefer this bread over a true baguette – it was good, but the bread should be named correctly.

Amazing cuisine, quaint romantic decor, superb staff. The best Italian cuisine on Hilton Head Island. We have enjoyed Michael Anthony’s Market Cafe for years because of their superb hot fresh cuisine and wonderful friendly service.
From the manager, chefs, bar tenders , and servers it is always a excellent dinner and treat to dine here.
Tonight we thoroughly enjoyed their Pan Seared Red Fish over Risotto with Artichoke and Farfalle noodle fettuccini entrees.

Have eaten at Michael Anthonys many times. Tried the Market Cafe this time and so glad we did. MA is good, but after trying the Market Cafe, we think it is better.
The meatballs were awesome, as was the bread. My husband got the baked ziti and he said it was the best he ever had. I had the crab cream pasta special and it was very good. Ended with the chocolate soufflé and Gelato and it was perfection.
So good we made reservations to come back for supper our last night on HHI.
Came back a year later and everything still awesome. I tried the chicken parmigiana this time. Yummy!

This is, without a doubt, one of the finest, most beautifully appointed, and professionally operated Italian restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. I recently enjoyed lunch there with friends, and everything, from start to finish, was exceptional. The food was absolutely outstanding, and the service was second to none.
