I went late at night so there was not many people there. It was a good sandwhich but not best french dip i ever had. Thats only thin i oredered but i like the vibe and friendly staff. I could have used a bit more flavor on the beef but ill be back to try iut other items. Ole school diner feel and im sure it gets crowded during the day.

Philippe The Original is a solid stop. We took the family downtown LA on the train, and it is a short walk from LA Union Station. The Beef French Dip sandwich was good, and the fresh Frisco bread was amazing. I really liked the double meat pastrami sandwich, big enough to share. Coffee was really good and only 46 cents. Big lunch room, easy to find seats. Line moves fast. Classic place with old school vibe and fair prices for DTLA.

Philippe’s, what can you say about a classic dipped beef sandwich? It’s the atmosphere, the delicious sides, I really like the pickled beets, and I prefer the pork sandwich.

Classic potato salad is always good, no matter what sandwich you order.

Try the mustard with your sandwich, it’s what other mustard want to be when they grow up.

You can’t go wrong with a good dipped sandwich.

Honestly , this was such a cute place. Old school and very simple. This is one of those regular spots to get inexpensive food. I actually just got the pb&j when I went but a few of my group got the dipper and they thought it was great. I’d recommend going here just for the old school vibes !

Went here on a Sunday morning. Parking was easy to find since the establishment has 2 parking spaces for patrons.

The line was pretty long, but with the amount of workers at the register the line moved pretty quick. The menu is somewhat extensive, so being in line for a long time is a plus. I ordered a beef single-dipped sandwich with a side of au jus, pickled eggs, custard and their house lager. The cashier prepared everything for you and they give you a tray to take to a table. Everything was delicious. Personally, I’d have more meat on my sandwich, but now I know to ask for extra. The pickled egg was delightful along with the custard. The beer was delicious and refreshing. The house hot mustard is definitely something not to mess with. Enjoy in light portions, but I did take some home.

Overall, a great experience! Historical, the atmosphere is a cafeteria environment, and the food was delicious. Definitely worth coming to the inventors of the French dip sandwich.

Pro Tip ⚠️: Try the beef with cheddar—but go easy on the signature mustard, it’s hot (in the best way). Also, free parking is a win!

When I Visited: We stopped by Philippe’s before a Dodgers game, based on a solid rec from a stadium employee.

Food/Drink Details : This place is a classic American diner—simple, tasty, and affordable. I had the French dipped beef with cheddar and it was on point. Ingredients were fresh, flavors hit just right. For dessert, the cheesecake was old-school and delicious.

Service : Friendly and fast. Perfect for grabbing a bite before the game.

Atmosphere/Decor ️: Retro diner vibes with a timeless feel. There’s just one TV if you’re hoping to catch the game, but it did the job.

Overall Experience ⭐: Philippe’s is a hidden gem just 10 minutes from Dodger Stadium, with two free parking lots and that no-frills, good-eats energy. Great spot for a pre-game bite or a casual meal with flavor and history.

The French dip is absolutely amazing. I got double meat which was well worth it. Drink selection was very diverse. The decor inside was also something to take note of. I got pudding for dessert and that was also a great treat. Parking can be difficult at times but they have 2 lots and street parking as well.

“Historic? You’ve gone to the right place!” My aunt told me over the phone. There was a line, and a lot of the crowd seemed like locals and the cashiers knew exactly what they wanted. Definitely wins in the atmosphere, and service was really nice. Plenty of seating and plenty of parking. I could smell the food upon entering. It was a pretty busy day, and the line moved steadily along, as those cashiers seemed to have everything down to a science. I got the classic beef dip, potato salad, and pickles. I was hungry. Right off the bat, I could tell from the smell of the restaurant that they bake the bread fresh.

This was confirmed when I sank my teeth into this sandwich. Light, airy, and crispness that you should get from French bread. The meat – very tender, and juicy, and can taste the Au Jus sauce well. The potato salad was very nice, and the pickles were a nice touch. You can find plenty of seats. A lovely sandwich, and glad I drove through all that traffic for this delightful experience.

If you’re a sucker for historic restaurants like me, go here and get the original French Dip.

Phillipes is a staple in DTLA (adjacent). Down the street from Union Station. A place that is so consistent in service and food!! Lemonade is always under a $1! Lamb dip is perfection. Chili is delicious (either with or without beans). Potato Salad is so good. Pickles are a must!!
