Exquisite in every way! The food is absolutely delicious and the presentation of each dish is so elevated. The ambiance is one of a kind. Every individual working there was genuinely warm and welcoming. The history of the hotel is very special. All-around good vibes. I’m so glad we celebrated his birthday here. My husband and I can’t wait to return! (We ordered the octopus appetizer and oxtail ragu/short rib entrees.)

My husband and I went to celebrate his birthday and we had an amazing experience. The cocktails were delicious; the food was very flavorful and great portion sizes. We even got our dessert (corn bread pudding with ice cream) comped! 20/10, we will definitely be back.

We had the pleasure of eating at The Dunbar tonight. Having loved everything I’ve tried at Germain’s Chicken Sandwiches , especially their brunches, I had incredibly high expectations from Shelton and the crew. Each dish exceeded those expectations. This easily became the best spot to eat in Gainesville. Grab a reservation and give them a try!

Find a way to save room for dessert, both are simply divine.

Everything about this place was well thought out & executed with so much attention to detail making it feel so cozy and refreshing. In a world of copy and paste establishments, The Dunbar is so different & interesting, each room having different elements but it all comes together so harmoniously.

When you walk in you feel like you’re coming over to a close Friends place and enjoying great vibes and surrounded by a great staff and even better food.

It was 3 of us for Dinner, we were sat in a cozy table & the whole staff was very attentive of us the whole time. We had a little bit of everything from the menu & everything just kept getting better. We started with the Cesar salad & lamb chops, great start, the lamb chops were fried which I’ve never had before and they were so flavorful. For the main course we all shared The short rib, chicken & the Oxtail ragu with a side of Mac and cheese. The Short Rib was the absolute star of the night, so tender and flavorful the gravy that came with the short rib made it the best short rib we ever had. The chicken was the 2nd runner up, the skin was perfectly crunchy and the chicken juicy and memorable, and Oxtail ragu was also very good and a huge serving. And please don’t skip indulging in both desserts the cookie and the bread pudding because both were amazing and a great way to end an amazing dinner. Also the drink menu was also great even if you’re not a drinker they had a great Haitian Lemonade and Hibiscus juice.

I drive up from Miami to try this place and I’m already planning my next trip soon because that short rib alone is worth the 5 hour drive.

Where do I begin with the Dunbar? From the moment I laid eyes on the menu I knew it was that little extra sparkle Gainesville has been missing.

From the moment we arrived, I knew we were in for something special. From the beautifully renovated space to the perfectly crafted menu, everything about the Dunbar screams sophisticated chic.

If you’re considering visiting, I’d highly suggest trying a little of everything.

We came with a group and everyone got something different. The octopus was so tender and flavorful, Caesar salad was big enough to feed the whole tables and the lamb was delicious.

Next our main courses. I knew before I even took a bite of the short rib it was going to be amazing. It certainly did not disappoint nor did the oxtail ragu.

For dessert, we tried both the cookie and the cornbread pudding. My boyfriend’s brother almost shed a tear at how delicious the cornbread pudding was.

Overall, everything about this experience was special without being over the top. The vibes were immaculate, live music was on point. And the service was five star.

The only place you need to consider for date night or any occasion is the Dunbar. 20/10.

Absolutely wonderful ambience. The food is spectacular. I had the fortune to try the ricotta toast, lamb chops, pork chops and butter beans, oxtail ragù, and the cornbread pudding for dessert. The décor is incredible and very in tune with the historical nature of the establishment. Additionally the service is very warm and inviting so this is a must try 🙂

Review might be lengthy but worth the read.

I don’t usually come to upscale restaurants due to a mindset that if I pay for something expensive , I won’t get the worth back in taste.

Today was a mindset reset. The moment you walk in this restaurant that was once a hotel, you sense a calm and inviting atmosphere. The servers were friendly and willing to educate us on the different dishes. The mastermind behind the cuisines came out to ask for our thoughts and to even let us try something new from the menu we don’t order.

The entree I go was the branzino with black rice, Lima beans and shiitake mushrooms. I personally don’t like suitable mushrooms but the way they seasoned it, made me eat all of them without hesitation. The fish was citrusy, well salted and flavorful. All I left was the bones quite literally.
( there’s a picture for proof)

The music is live with one of the family members indulging us in Spanish and Brazilian roots. The music was refreshing and allowing my friends and I to make new memories.

All in all, this restaurant is worth the investment. Thank you my friends for showing me a different side of culinary exquisiteness. I shall come back again.

What an amazing little gem! The Dunbar hits it out of the park with food, service, and ambiance. We ordered almost everything on the menu and were not disappointed. EVERY appetizer is delicious but the ricotta toast and olives were standouts. The short rib and oxtail ragu were table favorites. The potatoes are amazing. The cornbread pudding made me dance. I can’t recommend this place enough. The Dunbar is easily the best restaurant in Gainesville.

We had a 10/10 experience tonight at The Dunbar. I said to my husband multiple times, “I’m in heaven.” Everything was superb from start to finish. We ordered the caesar salad (best I’ve ever had), the half chicken, the miso cabbage, and the berry doobie cookie. Every single dish was absolutely incredible. The space is beautiful, and there was lovely live music in the dining room. We felt as though we were transported to another time and place. I’m also so thrilled that a piece of Black history is being resurrected in Gainesville and for the opportunity to learn more about the city that I love. The Dunbar is exceptional, and we can’t wait to come back soon. Don’t miss this gem!
