Food was good and everything was reasonably priced.
I’ve been coming to Newark airport for a long time. Kitchen step is hands down the best breakfast I have had. Even better than Classified.
I really like the atmosphere. Plants on the tables, lots of space, and a pillar decorated like gardens by the bay in Singapore.
I also loved the food. My avocado toast was amazing. A thick slice of thick-crusted breakd topped with avocado and crushed red pepper flakes. Highly recommended.
Finally, Ana was an excellent server. She really made it an outstanding experience.
– ATMOSPHERE: Contemporary with Garden/Nature touches. That was my favorite part of this place. You can spend time there comfortably – comfy seating booth-type seating mixed with chairs. There is also a bar if you just want a drink.
– SERVICE: it was OK. Not bad, but not great. The place wasn’t busy, so it could have been better.
– DRINK. Strong margarita, but at $17 it wasn’t amazing and 3/4 of ice in glass.
– FOOD.
– CRISPY EGGPLANT CUTLET – $26. It was just OK. Semi-crispy and very small for this price. Gigantic amount of French fries which I wouldn’t even want – would prefer Salad / lighter side.
– didn’t try desert
I ordered their breakfast burrito, and it was very filling. That meal was perfect to hold my hunger until I landed in Miami. Check out this spot if you have at least 1 hour between your arrival through the gates and boarding
Ordered a salad to-go & the bartender taking the order asked if we wanted shrimp on our salads. The menu said chicken was +$5 extra, so I thought shrimp would rationally be +$8 ish, give or take a dollar or two.
Imagine our surprise when he handed us the bill & the shrimp was +$14 – PER SALAD. The salad itself was $18.78 How are you going to charge almost the price of the whole dinner salad just for 5 incredibly average sized shrimp.
The salad tasted fine, the shrimp tasted ok – and I understand restaurants have to up charge to make a profit – but that was nowhere close to a $32+ (plus tax, plus tip) salad, even at an airport.
Maybe just be up front around your pricing – because I guarantee you no one is adding shrimp for $14 on purpose at the airport.
I ordered more than some people at the bar (a full meal) vs. 1 to 2 drinks and they wouldn’t even allow me to sit down anywhere for 10 minutes, even though there was available space. Then they told me I was taking up to much space where they told me to stand and made me move again.
I would have canceled my order and tip… if my flight wasn’t so soon. I would expect better service for a $30 to go meal.
