Our first time here. Chips aren’t our favorite but, with the exception of another place, most chips are okay. We like them hot and salty. The restaurant was very clean, not dark and drab at all ~ really nice decor. We really appreciated being able hear each other, too. Bright enough but not sterile which we really liked. Guacamole was very good. Ordered birria tacos ~ shredded beef was lean (hallelujah!) but shells could be crispier, which I’ll request next time. Also ordered chile colorado, and chile flavor was yummy! Our server was wonderful, and we’ll definitely be back!

The salsa was pretty spicy. Those jalapeno seeds will hit you out of nowhere. I’d say for normal spice people, it’s a little higher than medium.
The enchiladas were pretty good. There wasn’t a whole lot of red sauce on them. Otherwise, the parts were seasoned well.
The nachos were really good. You can tell the meat was seasoned and it was delicious. The guacamole was pretty great, so having it on the nachos was a big win.
I gave it 4 stars because the service was slow. Maybe they were understaffed. A few people looked like they were basically running around, but we still waited a while to order. Also had to wait about 15min just to check in and we were second in line. Not sure what was going on.

The food was so good! Love the interior high ceilings. There’s also a patio and can accommodate a large party. The birria quesadilla, birria tacos, rice, and chicken flautas were really good. There were a lot of margarita options.

On 12/30/25, I went for lunch and sat at the bar. I have previously reviewed and on this visit had another excellent experience. I ordered: Crispy Taquitos Bandera, chips & salsa, a margarita and a to go order of trio dip. Each tasted very good and I will order the taquitos many more times. The restaurant recently celebrated their first anniversary with a big party and band. These folks know how to cook, serve, entertain and listen. They really need a much larger lunch crowd so I encourage business people to use it for customer lunches and team meeting lunches. We need this place to thrive in Nashville! The prices are appropriate as well. The layout is conducive for a conversation or fine alone at the bar or small table. Everything is spotless. I want to encourage management to get a thicker paper napkin, they don’t need cloth but the current napkins are just thin. They bring two so this might be an issue they’re already aware of.

Please eat at this restaurant! This is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had in the Nashville area. It’s exactly what I’ve been missing as someone from CA & TX. Everything our large table ordered was incredibly delicious! The best salsa with the chips! The service was wonderful & attentive! Seriously people, eat at this restaurant so a place with GOOOOOOOD Mexican food can stay in business!

Extremely efficient and friendly staff. Excellent food, especially the queso dip. Our waitress went out of her way to make me a virgin drink that looked like a margarita. The interior decor is quite nice too.

Casa Calixto is incredibly clean with friendly staff! The restroom even has a changing table, which is a big plus. I enjoyed the Tilapia and shrimp plate, but the shrimp stole the show! Our server, Jesus, was a lovely gentleman. Highly recommend!

Pleasantly surprised. Sat at the bar – I appreciate the nice, granite counrertop – plenty of room to eat. Cheese dip has a bit of a kick, which we love. Steak fajitas and Birria tacos were great. We never went here when it was the former restaurant, so not sure how different it is – but – we will be back for sure!

Of all the Hispanic restaurants that I’ve frequented, (and I DO frequent A LOT of them), I must say that this particular location has exceeded my expectations in many different ways! The food, let me start there, is non greasy (unlike most Hispanic restaurants I’ve been to) they do not cook fast and easy with no thought to the overall flavor of the dish. This place carefully considers the use of salt and seasonings. I usually need some type of sauce for my meals but NOT HERE! They cook like they are at home! The salsa itself needs no salt or pepper or sauce added. THE SALSA IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECTED HERE! The meals themselves are well thought out. The plates do not smell like they just came out of the dishwasher, the entire building itself is clean clean CLEAN! No sticky tables and sticky menus! They care and I can tell!
Now, about the drinks…….
I have been to many a bar in my lifetime so far. I have never had someone so carefully craft a drink for me in my life! I ordered; in this order, a Mexicalita Jamaica, a martini espresso (with Cantera Negra Tequila), and a Long Island Team from their drink menu. Every single one was worth the price. Delicious AND they didn’t add too much sweet and sour to the Long Island unlike most bars do! This entire place is clean! The food is clean, the drinks are well crafted and absolutely delicious with clean glasses! The waiters are kind and thoughtful of their patrons! This is the type of place that you take a special someone and you have a great night afterwards. I would recommend this particular restaurant to ANYONE in the Nashville area who is looking for a “Mexican Restaurant” because I PROMISE YOU, you will fall in love! The atmosphere is well thought out also. Lots of nice decor and very good authentic music. Check the menu for your usuals and trust me, they will make it better than what you are used to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! And do not forget to tip your servers here, if anyone deserves it, they deserve it for sure!
