It’s hard to find good food at an affordable price and Gim Wah delivered for our group of four. While most people ate at the bar we sat in the dining room and had a great experience with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food came out at a good pace and was cooked to perfection. The Mongolian Beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken were the stars of the show.
If you want a nice spread of Chinese food in the Magnolia area that leaves your stomach and wallet happy I can think of a better spot.

An absolute MUST! This place is perfect for takeout or dine in at the bar which features an all-star cast of curmudgeony staff and jello-shots to boot!
The food is exactly the Chinese I am looking for but shockingly better. The sweet and sour chicken or moo shu are my jam.
You wont feel good from a health perspective about the decision to eat here … but your soul will give you a pass. After all you’re helping keep a neighborhood small business alive.
Added bonus … the bar has a juke box (unfortunately a new digital one) where you can pick your music!

Went there for dinner last night.
Hung out in the bar.
Waiter was super nice guy. Some items not available
Because they ran out.
But….
Loved the orange chicken, general tso chicken and the beef broccoli. Lots of flavor and taste

Literally the worst Chinese cuisine I’ve ever had. The Mongolian Beef box was 1/3 full of the cracker topping. After dumping it out the entire dish was burned as you can see in the picture. Tasted like char. Fried rice was flavorless. Dumpling soup was solid. Curry wontons had basically no filling. Looked like they’d been in a warmer for days. Egg roll was beyond greasy. Ended up just throwing it away it was so disgusting.

Best Authentic American (east coast) Chinese food. Great almond fried chicken, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork and other menu items. An institution in magnolia

I ordered General’s Chicken. I’m sure that’s what they made, their version of it anyway. What I was given is not General’s Chicken. Even if it was the wrong order (forgivable), it still tastes terrible. I will never return. Easily the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had and I’ve had Chinese food on the Navajo Reservation. Don’t do this. Host/server guy was nice.

My partner and I recently moved to Magnolia so we wanted to try all the local places. Next on our list was Gim Wah. Terrible decision. We ordered take out, proceeded to wait at the restaurant for 10 minutes after our arrival, arrived home 5 minutes later and the food was lukewarm at best. Nothing was fresh. The only item I was able to eat was the fried rice but that was still extremely underwhelming. Both my partner and I felt terrible after eating and my partner ended up getting sick afterwards. If you are thinking about trying Gim Wah, don’t do it. Just don’t.

I’m sorry but this was literally the worst Chinese food you could possibly eat… nothing we ordered was fresh. If you’re looking for food, go elsewhere. This place is empty for a reason

1st of all, realize this is NOT an upscale boutique Chinese restaurant. This is an old school American style Chinese restaurant and they are awesome for what they are. Try the Oyster sauce Beef, the Gim Wah chicken, Almond chicken. None of it is gonna win a culinary award but throw down another Gin and Tonic and order up some chicken chop suey you will love it !
