We visited this place with four people and ordered: Garlic Pork Slices (not highly recommended), Spicy Hot Pot (Mao Xue Wang), and Golden Soup Spicy Beef. The total was around $20 per person after tax.

We went there on a weekend at noon, and it wasn’t very crowded. Overall, this is one of the better Chinese restaurants in Indiana.

The water had a pretty strong tap-water taste even with lemon added.
The Mao Xue Wang (medium spicy) had relatively few ingredients — only three pieces of pork intestine and no beef tripe. There were more fish slices, but you can add ingredients from the “mala xiang guo” section (like tofu skin, etc.) for an extra charge.
The Garlic Pork Slices were served in a hanging style, a bit different from other places, and they were decent.
The Golden Soup Spicy Beef was flavorful and went really well with rice.

The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and even offered us a complimentary dessert — the brown sugar glutinous rice cake was delicious. Big thumbs up!

This place is my favorite restaurant in Bloomington!
I’m so glad I found it, it’s an authentic Chinese spot that also has great American Chinese options. Their dry pots are incredible. I’ve already been back three times in two weeks ❤️

As someone who loves trying Authentic cuisines all around Indiana and especially Bloomington, Uncle Wangs really nailed the mark! We had a lot of “American style” dishes because that’s just what we know, and they were the best we’ve ever had. we enjoyed: pork soup dumplings, waygu buns, garlic bokchoy, kung Pao chicken, Mongolian beef, Singapore fried noodles, and just a classic chicken fried rice, all with huge portions. we even were complimented with free Black tea and dessert. With so many options and flavors to try I feel I could come back time after time and rate it 5 starts again!

Amazing atmosphere and extremely welcoming staff. The soup dumplings were fantastic and we ordered the peck duck along with the szechuan. Sensational dishes. I will be making the trip back to bloomington just for this restaurant. Also got a free desert on the house before my food even arrived. Just. Wow.

Simply some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Food was very traditional and packed with amazing flavors – even left with a tingly mouth from the Sichuan peppercorns. Fantastic experience top to bottom…can’t recommend Uncle Wang’s enough!

Uncle Wang’s Alley is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. The food is fresh and authentic, each dish had its own flavor. We got eight different meals to try. The spicy lamb ribs and crispy pork were excellent. The duck was also cooked perfectly. Everything was seasoned well, some dishes were spicy, but not too spicy if you don’t eat the peppers. The place was very busy which on a Friday night which is great to see. They just opened up under new management, I definitely recommend eating here if you want authentic Chinese cuisine.

The third chinese restaurant we visited in Bloomingtoon. It is quite a roomy place. It is a typical chinese restaurant where you see mrnu with a picture on the wall. We ordered sliced pork belly with garlic sauce. Very nice presentation. The pork belly tastes dry, and the raw garlic is very strong in the sauce. It is good but not as good as the one we had before.
Sweet and sour pork is ok. The pork is crispy, and the red sauce is good. It is just that the pork might need better seasoning.
The stir fry cabbage with chili was recommended because they ran out string bean, but it is not good. Not much taste.
Sichuan pepper fish stew is yummy. It has mung bean noodle, bean sprout.
Overall, it was ok dinner. Pricewise it is similar to other chinese restaurants. I can say it is not cheap. I believe there is an extra charge for credit card transaction.

Great variety of food!!

That said, are the vegetable dishes actually vegetarian? no fish or oyster sauce? What contains nuts? Shellfish? I’m not sure what I and others in my family are able to order since there’s no menu markers for allergen info and dietary restrictions (vegetarian, sesame-free, shellfish-free, nut-free, etc).

I had a lovely egg drop soup with vegetable Spring rolls. They have a wonderful Peking Duck here. It’s enough for 4 people. They also used the bones to make a Duck soup, Enough to feed a family. It was very Tasty and a cold windy day. This restaurant had just opened a month from what I understood from my server. My server was a wonderful lady from China. She said one of the reasons she chose to work for Uncle Wang’s Alley was they had such Peking Duck and it reminded her of home.

The restaurant is located on East 3rd street right across from the Turkish Restaurant to the South. There is parking on the East Side of the restaurant. There is steps down into the restaurant. It was lovely to have a sit down Chinese restaurant With real Chinese dishes. If you’re looking for a nice Dining experience, I recommend this restaurant.
