I was excited that there’s a promising Japanese restaurant with great reviews opened near by, so we decided to give them a try. Not feeling like sushi and big fans of tonkasu and ramen, we decided to order those two items.
The ramen and the tonkasu came out with decent presentation, but that’s where it ends.
My tonkasu instead of a decent piece of cutlet, it was a sliver of meat as thin as a piece of cardboard fried to the point of it turned to a piece of jerky. I did complain to the server and they replaced it with another small sliver of meat but better cooked. There were not much vegetables with the meal, some sautéed bell peppers and onions drowned in soy sauce, and a small scoop of rice that is hard. $15.90.
The ramen was nothing special, not even sure if they actually made the broth themselves, but when you marinated Hard boiled eggs in soy sauce for however long with the well cooked yolk soaked in the soy sauce, they are just salty, and the piece of egg we got was exactly that, we also got three slices of uncooked fish cakes that came straight from the package, sliced, cold and in the bowl. $14.50.
The ambiance is modern and clean, but I do wonder how a brand new restaurant’s ventilation can be so bad that after the meal, we smelled like we were cooking in front of a fryer all day. Service was decent, there was only one server running the whole show. She was friendly but maybe overwhelmed, serverd us the appetizer without plates to eat on, asking if we needed forks and forgot to bring them when we said we would like to have forks.
Maybe the great reviews are for the sushi? We are not going to go back to find out after today’s experience though.
One star for the decent service and one star for the veggie tempura which was the only thing we actually enjoyed. Why we finished our food? Because we were hungry and didn’t think we’ll get refund if we just leave the food untouched.

Warmly welcomed upon entering- which is always appreciated! Came here on a quiet Friday night for the first visit.

Seated in one of the 3 booths available. Service was good and attentive, gave good recommendations.

Sushi and shrimp appetizer were just OK, nothing that knocked my socks off. What really threw me off was the lighting – white canned recessed lighting, mixed in with slightly warm modern light fixtures. The lights right above the booth were pretty invasive, needs to be dimmed down. On top of that, the restaurant was playing music like you’re in a night club. Overall the vibes were just not meshing well.

First things first, it was clear that our server didn’t really know what they were doing. They were very nice, but didn’t know how to pronounce poke, didn’t bring us a second bowl for our edamame pods, and weren’t sure where to find the dishes we ordered on the menu.

That said, the food was great. The spicy garlic edamame was the second best that I’ve ever had (a bit spicier and a bit less garlicky than #1).
The poke roll was very yummy, I felt like that scene in ratatouille where he eats the strawberry and cheese at the same time.
The crunchy tuna roll was great but some pieces were better than others; it was a bit inconsistent.
And the acevichado roll was good but I didn’t like it quite as much as the other things we ordered.

Came here for Valentine’s Day dinner with my wife. We were seated quickly, and the staff was all very kind! Unfortunately within a few minutes of us arriving the fire alarm went off. Nobody seemed to know why it was going off, but there was no fire so nobody left (kinda funny honestly).

It kept going off for 5 or 6 minutes until they got it to stop blaring in the dining area, but could still be heard elsewhere. They propped the front door open to air it out which just made the dining area freezing!

The server eventually brought us our appetizer and sushi, but forgot to bring us chopsticks so we had to flag someone down.

The sushi was pretty good, no complaints but nothing stood out to us as particularly noteworthy.

They were slow to bring us our bill, and I am not usually one to complain about a restaurant, and I have never asked to be comped for anything, but I was disappointed that they didn’t offer to comp our drinks or appetizers for the fire alarm situation. Even as the fire department showed up in full gear as we were finishing up. Especially on Valentine’s day night! I understand they were probably flustered from the fire alarm, so I can give some credit but we were still disappointed with our date night experience.

Bonus pics of the FD showing up attached! Sorry no pics of the food

This place is amazing!!! We got three different sushi rolls and weren’t expecting to finish all of them, but it all was so good we ended up eating everything! The Acevichado roll was my favorite! We also tried the purple corn juice and I really liked that! The service was very very good and I could tell they really cared about helping us have a great experience. They did a really good job at bringing their culture to this restaurant. I am usually not a seafood lover but I would definitely come back here, it was a very good experience. 🙂

This place just opened three days ago. It’s very clean and located in a great spot. The staff were very kind and helpful with menu suggestions. I had the sashimi combo and it was absolutely delicious. The cuts of fish were so fresh and the price was amazing!!! The ambiance is perfect for a date night. The booth tables had cute candles which I thought was a nice touch. We will definitely be back.

Misti Maki was delicious. The restaurant was very clean and the service was excellent, friendly and timely. We ordered the Miso Salmon and three sushi rolls. We enjoyed every bite. The Miso Salmon was cooked just how I like it with a crispy exterior. The Lion King roll was very good!
The combination of Peruvian/Japanese cuisine was overall excellent. The cheese, Wonton’s were a hit as an appetizer.
We will definitely eat at Misti Maki again.
