Reviews
Food (3.5/5 stars):
– Ramen: both the Tonkatsu and the Black Garlic Ramen both had tasty broth, but I had better elsewhere. They did have a decent variety of toppings compared to the other ramen place in town. The medium boiled egg was just that. The other place in town gives a soy sauce roasted egg which is much tastier. Overall, their ramen is good and recommended.
– Bento Box: both bento boxes we got was just fair. The portions are decent for the chicken katsu with tempura, but the teriyaki chicken with the CA roll was a little chintzy (only 4 small pieces of CA roll. Other places give 6 pieces). The CA roll was nothing to write home about, just bland. The dipping sauce for the chicken katsu was just ok, could be more flavorful. The miso soup that came with the bento boxes could be more flavorful, but decent and had some tofu and seaweed. The salad dressing was a sesame based dressing and was pretty good, but could benefit from a little bit more.
– Ika Geso (deep fried squid tentacles): flavorful batter, crispy and not too thick. The dipping sauce was just a basic sriracha mayo, so nothing impressive. I chose to just eat it without dipping in the sauce.
Service/Ambiance (4.5/5 stars): the wait staff were very attentive and the food came out quickly. A little after 2pm, they came by all the tables to announce the last call for the kitchen as they close at 2:30pm and reopen at 4:30pm Monday-Saturday. It’s not a big place, so it is best for parties of 2-4 people, but they can accommodate a slightly larger party at the back of the restaurant.
Overall, great service, I would come back for the ramen, but there are better places for bento boxes (only chicken here, no beef or pork) in town. I did not try their sushi, (only the CA roll that came with my bento), so I cannot comment on that.
We ordered bentos, sashimi, ramens and rolls. The orders came very quickly, despite many items were ordered. They even offered extra miso soups and ginger.
After shopping for a long day in the cold weather at the outlet, the warm food was comforting and satisfying. The sashimi was fresh. Of all the items, the black garlic ramen was very nice. The soft centered egg was very delicious. It would be nice if the soup was even hotter. One of the servers was very attentive and told us to order extra hot soup for ramen next time.
Overall, it was a pleasant surprise to have quality Japanese food in Vacaville. We thoroughly enjoy the quick and attentive service.
Update 7/24/25 still our favorite restaurant in town and best sushi on the west coast
