My husband (professional chef) was blown away by the quality of food!
We started out with Gujeolpan, and ordered Braised Angus short rib, Sotbab with sliced brisket. Every dish was prepared perfectly and banchan (side dish) were freshly made by the chef.
Pricing was reasonable for the quality they provide. Anyone who’s been to modern Korean restaurants in NYC will appreciate the value of food you are getting at The Plating. We felt the chef’s passion and dedication to this wonderful restaurant. We will definitely come back with rest of our family and friends in a near future.
Decor, table setting, plates.. all the details of the restaurant were curated by the owner. If anyone wants to experience authentic modern Korean cuisine, it is worthwhile to travel to this restaurant in NJ.
Overall, the experience was just okay. Considering the portion size and taste, the prices felt expensive. For similar dishes, I would rather go to Pyeongandong in Fort Lee.
First of all, there is no soup dish. But the simple menu focusing on various dishes stands out. The atmosphere of the restaurant is simple and modern. We ordered 3 dishes for take out and they were all excellent! Can’t wait to try other dishes.
The kimchi served as a side dish is amazingly refreshing !
Among the dishes I’ve had recently in New Jersey, braised ribs had an exceptionally good texture and were not too sweet. The marinated raw shrimp was so good because it was light and not particularly salty or sweet. The Gujeolpan did not taste like flour and had a great texture and taste.
I think I’ll be visiting this place often.
This is a restaurant I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for the taste of elegant Korean cuisine.
The moment I walked in, I could tell the owner-chef puts a lot of care into the experience. While some reviews mention small portions, I completely disagree. The attentive waitstaff constantly checks on you and offers to refill the delicious banchan (side dishes) as needed.
The Plating is a must-visit!
The food beautifully blends traditional Korean flavors with a modern twist.
One of their signature dishes, the braised Angus beef short ribs, is a standout and my personal favorite.
The atmosphere is chic and inviting, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a unique and delicious Korean dining experience!
Our friends arrived less than 10 minutes late (because, baby), and we had barely sat down and started talking when a staff member (possibly the owner) abruptly told us we had to order immediately due to “capacity issues.” The restaurant was empty at the time, so this came off as unnecessary and hostile. She was speaking in Korean to my wife, but the tone was clearly rude and abrasive (which my wife later confirmed).
It got worse when she insisted we couldn’t have both a high chair and a stroller and then took the high chair away – even after the baby’s mom asked to keep it. We were seated in a back corner against two walls, and there were obvious, customer-service-oriented ways to position the stroller and high chair without blocking walkways. Instead, we were treated like an inconvenience and the employee / owner went out of her way to make our lives more difficult.
The food might be fine, but the service and attitude completely ruined the experience. I won’t be returning. I’d give 0 stars if I could.
I also appreciated the chef’s tasteful selection of dinnerware and furniture. A treat for your eyes!
We all enjoyed what we each had and will be returning very soon to try other dishes. I hope this establishment thrives and will spread the word!

For our appetizer, we ordered the “Gujeolpan,” which was great to share. The presentation was lovely and blooming with notable craftsmanship. For our main dish, we ordered the “Sot-Bap with Prime Ribeye Steak” and the “Sot-Bap with Abalone.” Both of these dishes were phenomenal. The flavors were delicious; each bite brought a smile to my face. Lastly, the Korean cinnamon punch was light, refreshing, and nicely balanced. Love this place!
