The food:
We went with a buffet of enchiladas, salads/sides, chips & guacamole, and tres leches cake (we had a tough time picking the dessert because they are all so good!) and it was delicious- the chips were on all the individual tables making access easy for everyone, the enchiladas were always hot and filled (they even last minute made some without cheese for a vegan guest), and we received many compliments from guests after about how it was the best wedding food ever (including family from New Mexico who have high standards!)- we couldn’t agree more 🙂 We chose a limited menu of cocktails and mocktails, along with beer/wine, that were all fabulous.
The service:
All of the staff working were so kind and attentive, they really went above and beyond for our guests. The food had tags to explain what each thing was, and even though our event had over 100 people, nobody ever had to wait at the bar for a drink- they worked so quick and seamlessly. We also had communicated a budget we wanted to stay within, and the staff monitored and discretely gave us the heads up of when we were getting close to it so we could switch to just beer/wine offerings, which helped so much!
We specifically worked with Janelle on the event details, and she was amazing. She helped us make decisions, gave us a tour of the place, had tables moved for a dance floor, and thought of things we didn’t like coat racks and microphones. She even spent time talking to our DJ and a family member who contacted the restaurant directly and wanted to add a photo booth, and to organize parking options- all without being asked. Wedding planning can be stressful, especially with an event our size, and we really didn’t feel stressed at all because we were in Janelle’s very capable hands.
The Atmosphere:
The space is really beautiful- we didn’t need to bring any of our own decorations given the high ceilings, beautiful decor and plants upstairs, and the fancy decor with a mirror on the ceiling in the downstairs. The lighting was also perfect where guests could go upstairs for a more calm conversation, and downstairs to dance. Also, it must be noted that the bathroom is gorgeous, which we received many compliments on- it’s rare to find an event space with a bathroom that is nice to be in and has enough stalls!
We are so happy we chose to go to the Painted Burro in Harvard sq for this very important event, and wouldn’t change a thing about the entire night!
My sister and I went in for a meal and it was very disappointing.
I ordered 3 tacos and my sister ordered the chicken chimichanga. The rice that came with the taco and inside the chimichanga was not cooked properly. It was hard and feels grainy in your mouth. All three tacos was salt especially the barria taco. The only one I could actually eat was the carnitas.
When I told the server he was apologetic and stated that he will let the chef know and asked if I would like to order anything else. I decline to order anything else. My sister ordered tres leches to go and they gave it to her for free since the meal was a disappointment.
When the bill arrived I laughed at the 5% kitchen appreciation fee. I just showed appreciation for a meal that was not edible.
The drinks was ok, bar had good tequila selection. The atmosphere was nice and they did a really good job renovating the restaurant.
My go to at Painted Burro use to be the Cadillac cocktail- known for its large size and now it’s a watered down small cocktail. I also used to really like the ceviche which not doesnt live up to the hype. The dinner items are also strange because they sometimes make the portions too large, for example thr salmon and rice often has wayyy to much rice to salmon ratio. The other items often feel super heavy and could benefit from having a side salad or something to balance out the meal.
The service has also gotten extremely slow, even when ordering drinks . The owner should really rethink the menu, increase serving size, and fix service pace.
