I was simply blown away by their selection and quality of fish; not to mention that it was all so affordable. Each piece of fish was buttery and sweet and it just melted in the mouth. I highly recommend getting their omakase so you can try all their premium fish.
We also tried their sake and it was pretty cool that they let us pick our own sake glass.
I’ll definitely be back, next time I visit Sacramento. Kumi is simply amazing.
Original review:
We ordered a variety of nigiri and rolls and we were fully satisfied! Good fish, fair prices and friendly service. We will be back!
Food: $8 for 2 pc sake (salmon) nigiri. Fish portion is huge and fresh. Sushi rice is prepared and seasoned well. $13 for chicken karaage. Super crunchy, marinated thigh pieces served with lemon and spicy mayo. Also a good portion.
Packaging: My to-go order was packaged in all recyclable or biodegradable materials! This is something I dont always see here in Sacramento. Staff also asked what supplies I might need (chopsticks, wasabi, soy sauce) to cut down on waste. Really appreciate these conscientious business practices.
Ambience: There is bar seating by the sushi chef. More bar further away. Tables are spacious and comfy looking. TVs showing sports games when I went in. I’ll definitely be back for dining in to have a beer and dinner! See you soon.
My wife and I are on an adventure to try as many sushi places near Sacramento and decided to try Kumi Sushi after seeing strong reviews online. The owner was very kind and welcoming, but the service felt disorganized. Our server seemed lost—we had to repeat our order several times, and even then, mistakes happened. An otoro we never ordered appeared on the bill (removed once we pointed it out), and our A5 wagyu didn’t arrive until we asked about it.
On to the food:
The rice in the nigiri was cold, which really took away from the overall experience. Maybe because we arrived an hour and half before they were going to close?
The chutoro didn’t look or taste very fresh, though I did notice they tried adding a truffle twist on top.
The saba was $12, which felt overpriced given it’s usually one of the cheaper fish, and the quality didn’t match the cost.
The sake and hamachi were decent.
The biggest disappointment was the A5 wagyu nigiri. At about $22 for two pieces, it came out as very thin slices, with roughly 30% of each piece just visible fat, almost like pork belly. Instead of the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu experience, it was chewy and uneven.
Overall, while the staff were friendly, the service issues and the quality of some dishes—especially the wagyu—left us underwhelmed. We had high hopes going into the place 🙁
The waitresses were very welcoming and friendly.
Food was definitely really good! I ordered the chirashi and loved the quality and freshness of the fish. The sushi rice was perfect too.
Out of the three rolls I tried, the volcano roll was my favorite — and the nigori sake.
Kumi is now one of my go to sushi places!
