What a fun spot! It’s like a food court with 4 or so little restaurant windows you can choose and order from, or order something from each, and then find your spot to sit. In the middle, there is a really nice, big, round bar. Down the hall are stores, a salon, and other vendors. We chose Soul N Rico to order food from because we read the reviews online and wanted to try some Puerto Rican food! The man running the place, assuming the owner, was so friendly and really welcomed us to his counter, offering a menu and suggesting some of his specials for the day. We got the chicken stuffed jalapeño poppers, 3 empanadas, and sweet plantains… it was all so good! Will definitely be back to try more of the empanada options soon!

Ok, this place was absolutely incredible! All of the 5 star reviews were spot on (and the reason we sought out this place passing through town).

We both ordered chicken and rice, as well as an order of tostones. I left completely stuffed as I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving one piece of this deliciousness on the plate. These guys know how to cook!

I rarely get to Brattleboro, but would drive the 1.5 hours just to eat here again!!!

The first experience my husband and I had with Chris was amazing, he offered to show us every dish he had to offer that day! The aroma was delicious! We tried the Sweet and Sour Corned Beef! You have to try it! Also a dish he whipped up to share with the patrons shrimp and garlic fritters (shrimp bacalaitos)! Amazing a must try!!! The pulled pork is so tender and full of flavor! And don’t forget to try the Empanadas!

I don’t care where you live—Soul N Rico is worth the trip. The Puerto Rican and soul food here is unreal—every bite leaves you wondering why you haven’t been coming here your whole life.

The owner personally checks in on guests, making sure everything is just right, and it shows in the experience. This isn’t just a good meal—it’s the kind of spot you’ll crave again and again. I’ve told people hours away to make the drive, and I’ll keep telling them. Don’t wait – go.

I literally didn’t know I could get this in Vermont.

At first, I was reluctant to try this place, then Chris, the chef, told me, “I promise you won’t be disappointed” and man, he didn’t disappoint us. The food was exquisite and served super fast. The Cajun Shrimp Pasta was delicious, cornbread was on point, and the ribs to die for. We live in MA and can’t wait to go visit again.

Soul N Rico is a great restaurant in Brattleboro, VT! I fell upon this when looking for a good stop for food while going north and this place did not disappoint.

Location is great being right off the highway. Right inside of a bar with several restaurants is a great way to get even more feet coming in. My favorites are the BBQ ribs and the must, The Amazing Cornbread!

Ah, young Padawan, a feast most satisfying I have enjoyed!

The fried chicken—crisp as a Jedi’s reflexes, yet tender as the Force itself—held within it a hint of spice, a subtle reminder that balance is key. The oven-roasted steak fries? Seasoned and cooked to perfection, as precise as a lightsaber’s strike. ⚔️ The cornbread, golden and warm, brought comfort like the embrace of the Light Side. And the fried plantains—sweet, caramelized treasures—provided a most fitting finale to this culinary journey.

A Jedi’s wisdom: When placing an order for pickup, use Toasttab.com instead of DoorDash. The deception of extra fees is strong—$7.50 more it would have been, despite the illusion of “no fee for pickup.” The true menu prices, only through Toasttab, align.

A banquet worthy of a Jedi, with generous portions to sustain even the mightiest warrior. Recommend it highly, I do! ⭐

07/19/2024. We have been stopping here for over 40 years. The building was bought and renovated. Now called Vermont Marketplace Tavern. Beautiful large u- shaped bar with 3 individual kitchens for food. A mini food court if you will. Today we chose “Soul N Rico ” my wife and I both got the “not classic” Fish & Chips. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. You can read the description on the Pic I posted. Amazing sauce and very unique variation on fries. The onions in the sauce were so delicious. Super nice family. OH!! He also makes his own special lemonade with real lemons in a slushy. This was also great. Pucker- up for this!!! Inside and outside tables. We will return.

I wanted to wait a few days after eating here to see if my opinion of this place had changed. Three days later, it has not. This restaurant is amazing. My friends and I came from out of town for a film premiere and one of them suggested that we eat here. I went online to do some research prior to eating here. Based on the pictures alone, I could not wait to get here. A little skeptical at first because I’ve had experiences where the food looked good but it was not. Soul N Rico did not disappoint and that is an understatement. The stewed ribs were off the bone delicious and I don’t know what dude poured on my cornbread, butter?? honey??? Whatever it was gave just the right touch to make it go from great to absolute perfection. It was my first time eating shrimp Bacalaitos but thanks to this place, it will not be my last. Also, I’m not a fan of sweet plantains but I ate every single one on my plate that day. In conclusion a small off the corner restaurant inside of a quiet shopping center but a restaurant with big portions of food and enormous flavor. If I can biased, nothing beats my mother’s home cooked soul food but this is an extremely worthy contender. Do not let this place pass you by. Vermont has no idea how good they have it!
