This restaurant adds to our mounting evidence that the more run down the strip mall the better the food. So don’t let the exterior deter you or you will miss out on some wonderful Ethiopian dishes clearly made with love. We had a combo dish with beef, chicken, and lamb, plus two vegetable sides, for $26. Fed two hungry people and we took home a meal. The baklava was a very generous portion for under $3. (If these prices seem on the low side to you, do what we did and tip generously). Be prepared to wait while those flavors are cooking. It took about 40 minutes to get our food. But oh so worth it.

I recently visited J and K Restaurant and it is truly one of the best places in town. The location is great and very convenient. The food is absolutely delicious, and they prepare it exactly how you like it. If you want it spicy, they will make it spicy. If you prefer medium or mild, they will adjust it perfectly for you.
The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and make you feel like family. They offer a great variety of dishes, including fresh vegetables and all types of meat options, so there is something for everyone.
I highly recommend J and K Restaurant to everybody. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should definitely go and enjoy the experience!

Amazing Ethiopian food. Was looking for something different to have for a late lunch or early dinner and came across this place. The atmosphere was African with themed decorations and videos playing on the TV. Our order was taken quickly and we chose the meat combo and the vegetable combo to share amongst 4 people. If you eat in you also get a bowl of their macaroni soup which was spicy but tasty. The combos were more than enough for 4 adults. Always love being able to eat with the Injera bread. The cost even with tip was less than $20 per person for what we had to eat. Easily enough for 5-6 people. Highly recommend this restaurant even if you have never had Ethiopian this will be a great experience.

My wife and I just ate at J&K Ethiopian Restaurant. We love Ethiopian food and have been to several in KC and other cities.
This was the best Ethiopian food we’ve ever had!
Everything tasted so fresh. Each dish had distinct flavors.
We got the vegetarian platter and lentil sambusas…and we just added Baklava. Huge serving. All delicious.
The meal came with a soup. It tasted like a combination of vegetable soup and lentil soup with rigatoni. Great start to the meal.
Then we had the sambusas. They come out really hot so wait a few minutes. They were fresh and so good. I eat meat so I also got the beef sambusa. It was like an empanada but better.
The vegetarian platter had red lentils (our fav), a chic pea/split pea type dish, collard greens, and cabbage and carrot dish. All were better than we’ve had at any other Ethiopian restaurant.
The baklava was very good and a perfect way to finish the meal.
The prices are very reasonable…probably should be higher.

First time trying Ethiopian food was here about a month ago, and we’ve been there 3 times. The coffee service is amazing. All of the food we have ordered from here is amazing. It takes a while to get the food, but that’s because your meal is being prepared when you order. Go give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Tried J&K again after first enjoying a meal here in the Fall. I ordered the vegetable platter to-go, to take back to Lee’s Summit. I arrived 20 minutes after placing my order and had to wait about 10 minutes more for the food to be ready. They make it fresh! They offered their delicious soup for us to enjoy while we waited.
This vegetable platter is amazing. Even after an hour car ride home, everything was warm and just as delicious as I remembered. I crave the orange lentils! The injera bread is so tangy and spongy and all the flavors of the vegetables/lentils were great. I’ve only had great food/experiences from J&K.
The inside of their store could use some pizzazz, but I’m sure that’ll come with time.

This place is a hidden Gem! The bread is so tasty and unique. The lamb was some of the best I have ever had, and I have been around the world. Don’t let the facade fool you. This place is a must go in KC.

The food was delicious, but it was served almost cold. The service was tortoise- slow. Atmosphere was OK. Our server, though charming and kind, had a lot of trouble understanding what we were asking. And I understand that’s a language thing, but all these things combined warrants a three star from me. But as I said, the food was absolutely delicious.
