I moved to Tampa 9 months ago from Los Angeles… and was very dissappointed with the taco culture here… so much so that I avoided trying El Primo because i was tired of being disappointed. I was passing by today and decided to give it a chance and im so glad i did. Hands down thee best and most legit tacos in Tampa Bay. The tortillas are legit, the barbacoa, chorizo, and al pastor are legit, and you can tell whoever’s making the food actually loves what theyre putting it out. Glad i found this place. Keep up the awesome food and service and vibe.

I’ve lived in Tampa for 11 years and one of my only gripes was lack of good BBQ or Mexican food. You’d think it’d be easy to find authentic tacos in Florida but nope, Cuban sandwitches yes, but good ol’ fashioned carne asada tacos….no. And then while picking up my laundry next door, I spotted a Mexican restaurant, in of all places, a convience store. Could it be? It was just so unassuming and low key but the photos on the outside seemed like what I’d get in Texas. So I ordered two tacos and they were delicious! Exactly what I’d been looking for for 11 years and they’re only $3.50 (in 2025 that’s a good price) each. A food truck by my office in downtown charges $5 per taco and they’re nowhere near this. Now the problem I have is how to avoid coming here everyday, ordering 6 tacos each time and gaining 15 pounds.

Tried this Mexican spot recently—overall a decent experience. The service was friendly and attentive, which made a big difference. The food was solid, but the tortillas could really benefit from being homemade—they got soggy quickly. The spicy sauce brought heat but lacked depth in flavor. Didn’t really care for their green sauce, it’s more like a juice instead of a sauce. That said, I appreciated that the place didn’t try to mimic the typical South Tampa vibe. It felt more real, more grounded. With a few tweaks, it could be a gem.

Don’t be fooled by the supermarket setting – the food here is absolutely outstanding!
I’ve rarely had Birria this flavorful and well-prepared. Every dish is made with care and packed with taste. The owner is incredibly warm and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. A true hidden gem – definitely worth a visit!

Great tacos. Had a variety, asada, fish and birria. Fast service. My Modelo was super cold too. I’ll be back.

I was really disappointed with this burrito. It looked bland at first glance, but the flavor just wasn’t there at all. Everything tasted bland, no seasoning, no spice, no freshness that you expect from authentic Mexican food. The rice was plain, the beans were mushy, and the chicken had no real flavor. It felt more like a basic wrap than an actual burrito. If you’re looking for real Mexican taste, this definitely isn’t it.

I visited this taco place on my visit to Tampa and found their reviews were good and to be honest the food was really good. The tacos were fresh, tasty, and filling, and the service was fast. I would happily order from there again when I’m back in town. Lots of varieties ranging from fish, shrimp as well as chicken or steak tacos.

This is the spot! It’s basically a bodega from Philly The meats are amazing (highly recommend the Campechano and the Al Pastor) and the tortillas are homemade! Yummy is an understatement. So happy to find a place with such delicious Mexican food. I’ll be back every time!
