We have wondered about this place for years, and the Northwoods Trader has had it featured a few times, so we stopped in this Friday to check it out. Fish fry was fine, along with the traditional sides for $15. Bar area is fine. Small dining room needs some atmosphere badly. Boring valances in the windows needed ironing. Our waitress was great, but she is only there one day /week. Women’s room is tiny, but that isn’t unusual up here ..however, it is bad for those with disabilities. New owners seemed unfriendly, and unengaging with patrons…with the thin crowd, they could have made the rounds to welcome everyone! We may possibly try it again, sometime, as the slow winter gives them time to improve their business.

Service sucked to say the least. The new owners were cold and uninviting. I even got a few hard looks. Never felt so uncomfortable up here in the Northwoods and I’ve been coming up for 40+ yrs. NOTHING compared to Shankeys. Miss the good old days. I visited a few yrs ago now and haven’t been back. Zero interest whatsoever and will not recommend.

My wife and I took our aunt and uncle out for lunch there. The service was awesome, we were sat and drinks ordered which came quickly. The food came out quickly and was very good and reasonably priced. Place was clean and the staff nice and happy. The only thing was if you ordered their BLT sandwich, rather than toasting the bread, they prepare it on the grill and use far to much butter in the making, hence very greasy sandwich. But all in all, I would recommend this bar and grill.
