Tried Masala Ferry and the food honestly felt like the one which I could get in any of the famed restaurants in Kolkata. The flavors where deep and well balanced, not watered down or overly oily. Everything tasted fresh, and each dish has its own character.
if you’re looking for a truly authentic Indian food, this place is definitely worth trying.

A Mixed Bag – Some Hits, More Misses(Its should have been a 2.5 instead of a 2)

Wanted to try out the new spot since the change from Hyderabad Biryani House. We placed an order for pickup on Friday, and I have to be honest, it was a pretty mixed experience.

Let’s start with the service. We ordered one Bezawada Mutton Biryani at 5:00 PM and were quoted 25 minutes. When we arrived at 5:30, we were told it needed another 5. While waiting, my kids decided they wanted to try more, so we added a Chicken Biryani and Chili Chicken. This ended up adding another 30 minutes to our wait. I get that fresh food takes time, but the communication and timing could definitely be smoother.

Now, for the food:

Chili Chicken: This was seriously spicy. I’m not a stranger to heat, and my wife isn’t either, but this was too much for all of us, including the kids who couldn’t eat it at all. Having said that, underneath the fire, there were some decent flavors. If you have a high tolerance for spice, you might enjoy it, but it needs a warning label.

Bezawada Goat Biryani: This was the biggest letdown. I’m just going to be straight—it wasn’t a biryani. It was basically plain basmati rice with a scoop of goat curry at the bottom. There was no integration of flavors, no sense of the meat and rice being cooked together. It felt like I was eating two separate, mediocre dishes. None of us liked it, and we couldn’t finish it.

Special Bezawada Chicken Biryani: Thankfully, this one saved the night. It was actually pretty good! It had a different, more authentic profile—it reminded me of the solid Chicken Biryani I’ve had at places like Masti Grill in Seattle. It was still a tad spicy, but the flavor was there, and my kids loved it enough to power through the heat. This is the one I’d order again.

I know this restaurant has a great legacy to live up to, and I genuinely wish the new owners, whom I had the chance to meet and who seem passionate, all the best. It’s clear you’re not just doing a “Masala Ferry” rebrand, and I appreciate that.

I hope you take this as the constructive feedback it’s meant to be. We might be back to give that Chicken Biryani another shot. Best of luck on the journey forward.

We had an incredible culinary journey at Masala Ferry! Its one of the must try restaurants for delicious Bengali food. Everything is fresh and yummy. Service is super fast. We tried Bengali fish curry, Sorse hilsa, Mutton curry, Fish chop and many more. All were so yummy…my words are not enough to do the justice.

Tasty food and fair pricing. I will come back again in durga pujo buffet.

just few suggestions: food was not hot during the visit, and mutton was not upto the quality. Minor nitpicking. Rest awesome

It was my wedding Anniversary ! After a long eventful day, I decided to get the food ordered from Masala Ferry, even though the original plan was to get it from a reknowned Biriyani place in Mountain View! But I’m glad I changed my plan! I ordered Kolkata-style Mutton and Chicken biriyani, Mutton kosha, natun gurer sondesh! Masala Ferry simply made my day!! The food was sumptuous and when it comes with a sprinkle of friendliness and genuine care, that’s the secret ingredient!

Masala Ferry is Bengali/Andhra restaurant that replaced Hyderabadi Biryani house. This has recently opened and the owners are still figuring stuff out, so they take orders, serve food and even come and talk to you to make sure you can have the best experience there.

We had the Bengali veg and chicken thali. It was very delicious and hugely satisfying. The base thali comes with daal, rice, chapati, chutney, papad, potato fry and one vegetable curry (aloo posto) or vegetable fry (okra fry). The non veg thali has choice of fish curry, chicken kosha or mutton kosha. The chicken was really good and will take you back to the Bengali cuisine of Kolkatta. We also tried their misti doi which was again very well done.

Overall, an amazing experience! Will visit again.
