UPDATE 3/8/26
In a sea of ‘wannabe’ omakase spots popping up across the Lower East Side, Taikun remains the real deal. They don’t cut corners or hide behind heavy seasonings and condiments, just perfectly proportioned nigiri with flavors that highlight the natural sweetness of the fish. If you’re tasting chili crisp on your nigiri, you’re in the wrong place. Taikun is a haven for sophisticated palettes who know the difference between actual quality and social media hype. Pro tip: The sake pairing is a non-negotiable (a must try). The chef and host are always friendly, accommodating, and masters of their craft.

One of the best omakases I’ve tried. The flavors go perfectly together, simple and uncomplicated. The fish was fresh and portions are great. Our host and chef were friendly and thoroughly explained everything, their service is on point. I recommend the sake pairing. The sakes go so well with the fish. The flavor of everything is fantastic. I love that they escort you into the speakeasy bar for your last course and you can hang out there for as long as you like and get more drinks.. because what do people like to do after dinner? Find a bar to hang out in of course. Genius. The party next to us was already there for their second? time. I’ll definitely be doing the same!

Loved the omakase experience at Taikun Sushi. The chef and the waiter were lovely. Everything that we tried was luscious – and when you thought it couldn’t get better, it did. It’s a small venue so enjoy the intimate experience chatting with the chef and the waiter. Bonus – their impressive Japanese whiskey selection.

With so-called Omakase joints popping up on every other corner in New York City, it was a pleasure to find a reasonably priced high-quality dinner with excellent fish, well prepared by the friendly sushi, chef, Feri. He’s a bit shy at first, just going about his business, but if you engage with him a little bit, he is quite charming. The counter seats only six people and is tucked away in a small corner of the gray lady restaurant, with a separate entrance.

The Omakase menu follows a fairly standard progression with all of the familiar fish and good quality rice. The fish are all imported from Japan and I would say overall the quality was excellent. There was some interesting takes on the traditional preparation, such as adding olive oil, salt or marinating the Ikura in a sake and soy sauce marinade. While some of these techniques are nontraditional, I have to say that they worked really well and we both loved them.

I opted for the $55 sake pairing, which came with three excellent glasses of sake, and one glass of an excellent California Zinfandel. The sakes were all great and I am a fan of the Zin but I have to say I probably would have preferred another glass of sake because I didn’t think the wine was a very good choice for the fish. They chose to pair these Zinfandel with the oily fish, which makes sense intellectually. I just wasn’t feeling it. However, this was really the only constructive criticism I could offer of the entire meal and I think the beverage pairing was a good value at the $55 price point.

Great dinner, good value, excellent drinks… What more do you want? We will be back!

One of the best omakase in town, PERIOD (we have been to several with same price point).

No vavavoom over the top creation just pure focus on high quality fish and intimate service to details. Felt like you are dining in a speakeasy with just 6 /8 seats at the bar with curtain closed once everyone is seated.

Normally we dont order extra pieces but this time we both got a second of our fav, uni and scallop.

Highly recommended !!

Unforgettable omakase experience. It’s essentially a two-person show. Watching the chef and their partner seamlessly run the entire experience is incredible. Greeting guests, pouring drinks, and explaining every detail, they manage it all with effortless grace.

My wife and I go here for our birthdays every year as a special treat and we truly love it. We always are given a big welcome by the chef and Tri, the sushi is fantastic, and the atmosphere is even better. The sake pairing is worth getting once but Tri makes some incredible cocktails. Tip well because they deserve it! Worth the price!

Some of the best Omakase sushi I have ever had. Chef Feri was great and explained what every piece was and where it is from in Japan. I did not take the drink pairing option but the others did. The premium sakes that were served were really good, I was told. The price is completely worth it. I would have paid double what they were asking.
If you’re in New York City, definitely add Taikun to the top of your to do list.
I’m already planning to go back and I live in Montreal, Quebec…!

I didn’t take pics of every piece…was busy enjoying…

We had the omakase with sake pairing. Each nigiri was fresh, perfectly made with subtle flavors. The sakes pairing was excellent too. Highly recommended for someone who enjoy authentic sushi.

Most underrated sushi spot in nyc in my humble opinion. 90% of the omakase joints in nyc make you feel scammed…like how did I just spend $500 for stale fish. As my friend Charlie Munger always used to say: Price is what you pay, value is what you get.

Taikun has top notch fish, service, and value.
