Nestled within the vibrant Grand Arcade of Convention Hall, Shucked by Local 130 Seafood is a delightful addition to Asbury Park’s burgeoning culinary scene. Founded by Eric Morris and co-owner Michael Kenlay, this seafood haven replaces the former Asbury Oyster Bar with a mission to deliver exceptionally fresh seafood in a manner that is both upscale and approachable.

Our recent visit coincided with the festive Asbury Park Holiday Bazaar, where the atmosphere buzzed with holiday cheer and artistic flair. While many were drawn to the crafts and decorations, our hearts were set on the culinary offerings, and Shucked did not disappoint.

From the moment we were seated, our server Mariah made us feel right at home. Her genuine passion for food and engaging conversation transformed our dining experience. Mariah was not only attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant’s history, enhancing our appreciation for each dish.

We began our meal with an impressive tray of shucked mollusks that showcased the freshness of the sea. The selection included:

Laughing Gull Oysters from Barnegat Bay, NJ
Chebooktook Oysters from Bouctouche Bay, NB, Canada
Littleneck Clams from New Jersey

For our main course, we opted for the Dayboat Fish & Chips priced at $26. The Asbury Blonde beer-battered whitefish was a standout—golden and flaky without the greasiness that often plagues similar dishes. The accompanying seasoned fries were remarkably well-prepared, even winning over my typically indifferent palate. The local 130 tartar sauce was a revelation, bursting with citrus and dill flavors that elevated the entire dish.

To round off our meal, we savored a hearty bowl of clam chowder. This rich and creamy delight was perfectly balanced with savory clams and fresh vegetables, serving as a seamless tie between our appetizers and main course.

The location within the heart of the convention hall provides a unique opportunity not just for a satisfying meal but also for people-watching, enjoying live music, and exploring local vendors.

Overall, Shucked by Local 130 Seafood is a refreshing spot that pays homage to Asbury Park’s rich cultural tapestry, all while serving incredibly fresh seafood. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this restaurant deserves a spot on your itinerary.

What a gem! We came because of the reviews of the oysters and fish & chips. Not only did those dishes live up to what people said about them, we left impressed with the fisherman’s stew, the lobster roll and the clam chowder. Plus the service was warm and delightful. The seafood is fresh because it comes straight from Local 130 Seafood (a seafood market by the same owners). We will be back!

The food was a 10/10!

Our server Mariah was friendly, helpful in recommendations and attentive.

We started with the Local 130 caviar, it was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the Buffalo Frito Misto, it had a light batter and the buffalo and orange flavors complimented the dish in an unexpected way.

We also had the yellowtail crudo, it was light and packed of flavor, definitely try this!

Lastly in appetizers we had the grilled Swordfish special it was so unique in flavors, it had Mediterranean spin on it, very good.

For our entrees I had the tuna crudo and my husband had the soft shell crab sandwich special. The tuna crudo was delicious, the flavors in the dish were outstanding. My husband absolutely loved his soft shell sandwich.

We can’t wait to come back!

Shucked is a great little spot located in Asbury park right off the boardwalk. The seafood is fresh and the drinks are very well crafted. They have some excellent oyster options of course, but they have others dishes as well.

Welcome to yumtown! This place is excellent.
Perfect place to grab some fresh seafood on the boardwalk. The yellowtail crudo is my favorite thing on the menu. Best lobster roll in Asbury Park. Oyster selection is always on point.

SUCH a good spot right on the boardwalk! The food tastes high-quality and the presentations/sides are thoughtful. I got the tuna poke bowl and my husband had the fish of the day (swordfish). Both were incredible. Our server Timothy was very personable and helpful with the menu. We would love to come back next time we’re in the area.

I placed a catering order to go to surprise my dad and build a seafood tower, at home for his birthday. The team at Shucked did an absolutely unbelievable job. Not only did they label what kind of oysters were which, and label every tray with what was inside but they even went as far as to carry the order to my car. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, you guys killed it! Thank you, thank you!

We shared a wonderful, leisurely lunch at Shucked by Local 130 last Monday, to celebrate my new job. They have an excellent oyster selection, which we enjoyed sampling (we tried every single one!) They were shucked properly; the mignonette and cocktail sauces complemented them beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed my n/a Aperol spritz, and my hubby was thrilled you all had his favorite n/a beer on the menu! The boardwalk fries were delicious as well; my husband is a native of Maryland, so we love a good Old Bay fry. We had a blast people watching in Convention Hall, and really look forward to our next visit! A wonderful addition to the robust dining scene in Asbury Park.

We ate here about a month ago and everything we ordered was delicious! The oysters were cold and fresh and the fish & chips was the best I’ve had. I recommend coming here for a break from the beach or just a stop along the way.

Came by on a random afternoon and was really impressed with how good the food was. We had oysters, NJ clam pasta, and fish & chips. The oysters were super fresh and from different places, and the pasta was amazing — full of clams with a great lemon-garlic flavor. Definitely coming back!
