An odd spring day in the Osage. It was calm. Very little wind. The blades on the windmills were still as if frozen. Mother nature didn’t want to spin them today. Towers of smoke were visible across the prairie from the controlled burns. The smoky heated gases escaping straight up for hundreds of feet, undisturbed by the calm air, then billowing out like a big shade tree as they cool to the elevation. The temperature is perfect. Everything is green, growing, getting what needs to be done before the blistering summer heat. A great day to take a scenic drive to Mandy’s Café.
It has been a couple of years. A big double burger like the last time, but with fries today. The burger is a meal itself; stay focused on it. There will be fries left behind.
The best burger for 50 miles in any direction. And there is the Ribeye steak dinner Every Saturday night 5-8 pm. Mandy’s has the BEEF!

It has been a little while since we had a burger in Shidler. Road Trip! to the Land of pump jacks, wind farms, bluestem, Killers of the Flower Moon and…….Mandy’s
Fortunately, not much has changed. The service is back road, small town, country friendly. The burgers and sides are delicious. I don’t know how much the burger patties weigh. I don’t want to know because I would be embarrassed. I ate all of a big double meat burger. My wife had a single cheese burger and we split a side of crispy fried okra. Wonderful!!
If you find yourself in Shidler, your car navigation system may need to be updated, because you….. are lost. If you are lucky enough to be lost between 11am and 2pm pull into Mandy’s try the daily special or get a burger and side. Relax, enjoy. When you are done, drive south out of town, you’ll be okay. No doubt, you will be contemplating, when you might be able wander back up that way.
The food was worth the trip back!

Mandy’s has the “Beef!”
This is a nice small town restaurant that has good burgers, packed with beef. We had their cheese burger and the Cowboy Burger. The patties were handmade and had to be almost a half-pound. The fries were hand cut from fresh potatoes. Good Lunch!
The staff is friendly and they get the food out pretty quickly for a small operation. The inside is decorated with an interesting collection of animal heads, from wart hogs to moose. There are also lots of interesting historical photos. It is worth your time to look at all the photos.
They have daily lunch specials and a sign out front says their special on Saturday evening is ribeye steak!
If you are there ask for “Calf fry” from the menu. A local specialty. The atmosphere at Mandy’s is just so authentic and the food in my opinion is really good.
Once there, don’t miss to visit the winery that is just down the road.
