Ordered oxtail with rice and cabbage along with a soda for lunch. I should have looked at the price beforehand..my eyes almost popped out of my head when the kiosk said $27!! Smh I understand oxtail is expensive but maybe for lunch have a lunch special, because I surely wasn’t expecting to pay that price for lunch on a side street in Newark!
As for the food, the oxtail was cooked good but not the taste I wanted. This is a Guyanese restaurant and I never had oxtail Guyanese style. Too much anise /cinnamon or something that my tastebuds found overpowering. If that flavor is your cup of tea, enjoy!

This was my first time going to A&J. I actually was looking to buy Jamaican coco bread. The customer service was great but when I got home trying to eat the oxtail with the rice and peas I couldn’t. I don’t know what type of gravy they made with it, I don’t know. It just did not taste right. I couldn’t even eat it. Had to throw it out. I wouldn’t be going back there again to be honest. As I said the customer service was great. I am from the Caribbean so the taste and quality needs to be on point.

The place is clean, and the staff is very friendly. The food is phenomenal, and the prices are good. The environment is nice, with flags nicely painted, and the music selection is great. It makes you forget that you are in the city.
My wife and I enjoyed:
-The rice and beans.
-Oxtail.
-Stew chicken.
-Curry chicken.

Tried this place for the first time today on recommendation from my colleagues for lunch. I had amazing Guyanese food and had a great conversation with the chef. This place has truly excellent service and it’s an easy place to grab lunch in Newark for a great price!

The food at A&J Caribbean Taste is definitely flavorful. My taste buds took a trip to the Caribbean with the perfectly cooked brown stewed chicken and dhal puri. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any food lover seeking a tropical culinary experience.

I was craving Jamaican Food and I never tried this place so I knew I had to try it. This restaurant offers Jamaican food as well as Guyanese food. I ordered the jerk chicken and beef patties. The chicken was spicy and the rice and beans was good as well.

I ordered a chicken roti with pumpkin and tamarind sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed the roti overall, but I couldn’t taste the added pumpkin or tamarind sauce, it just tasted like a standard roti. Regardless I’ll be back, plenty of options I want to try. Place was clean bright and welcoming.

First time trying the food, the smell leading to the place was so good. Taste was great. The pepper shrimp is not to spicy n is very delicious. I also had the spinach rice which was also delicious. The stew chicken which came separately cause I want to try that as well, was good but did taste a little sweet. Overall I would buy again. Staff was very welcoming and friendly also. Great place for a taste of the Trini food
