The service, however, was not great. To be fair to the team, they appeared under staffed and are still running their business on a Square card swapper plugged into an iPad… The business could use a smidge more investment.
The atmosphere is generally fun and the right vibe, though they’re missing some energy/life in the restaurant. Cute place.
Unfortunately, the food was downright disappointing. The hash browns were greasy, the turkey on my eggs Benedict tasted like it was past its expiration date, and the eggs were tiny. The Philly cheesesteak was mostly vegetables with barely any meat, and what little meat there was had almost no flavor. For the price, it felt like a complete letdown. The fries were the only thing that was okay, but that’s not saying much.
Overall, the meal was below average at best. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they completely overhaul the menu.
The food was excellent. Toast was nice and buttered. Bacon was cooked perfectly. Hashbrowns were nice and crisp and actually flavorful.
My wife got a breakfast burrito and she enjoyed hers very much.
We got an iced white chocolate mocha which was also very good (strong!).
$28 for two meals which neither of us finished and an iced coffee…in this economy??
Service was very fast and prompt and it was an “old timey” diner setting.
If I lived in the area I’d go back for sure.
On the bright side, the milkshake was very good — rich, creamy, and the best part of the meal. However, the staff’s negative attitude took away from the experience.
We truly wish our first visit had been better, because we’d love to have a go-to breakfast spot in downtown Raleigh.
The pancakes were fine. The fried chicken? More like oversized freezer-aisle nuggets, a devastating blow to anyone expecting a Southern-style indulgence. The fruit bowl ($3 upcharge) was a half-filled ramekin of browning grapes and a few sad blueberries, which gave the distinct impression that they had been abandoned in the fridge overnight and served against their will. We will stick to pancakes, sausage and eggs going forward.
The worst part was the checkout process. We received an itemized bill, paid with a credit card, and were then handed back the card with a receipt with no breakdown—just a total that was mysteriously ~$8 higher. A quick calculation revealed that a 20% gratuity had been automatically added, but without transparency or notation, instead leaving a tip line as if we were expected to add a tip to this new total. As someone who tips a minimum of 20% for any service, I have zero issue with the tip amount, but the presentation was misleading at best and deceptive at worst. There was no subtotal, no line item showing the tip amount that had already been added, and no attentive server from whom to request an itemized copy to understand the discrepancy from the receipt provided earlier. This is a scammy business choice, please fix it. The auto-gratuity should appear on the receipt at the time of tipping and signing AND the server should inform guests of it upon providing the check. Otherwise, don’t do it.
We’ll give it another shot in a month because we acknowledge quality of service, kitchen speed and portion sizes can vary as the new staff is figuring things out. Once these issues are addressed, along with the sneaky auto-gratuity, we hope to make this place a staple for us and our downtown friends. I’ll be happy to update this review at that time.
Like any new restaurant, they were packed in the first few days, so things moved a little slower—but that’s completely expected when a place is that popular. The food and service here are well worth the visit, and I’ll definitely keep coming back!
