I write few reviews and only positive ones – until now. I was part of a large party and kudos for honoring our 545pm reservation. I am a JMU parent who years ago worked many restaurant jobs so it really hard to not get a great tip from me. But PLEASE look at the attached photo of my “Brisket” meal – a few foul pieces of gristle. The manager offered to take it off the tab (fine) and offered me hummus as this could be brought out quickly (as we told our waiter – nice kid, clearly learning and trying – we needed to leave by 730pm for a show). Sadly the hummus was itself super poor quality. I appreciate “things happen” and appreciate the added stress of a busy parent weekend but can only conclude after our visit – DO NOT eat there as it just is no where near value of the $50 per person paid. And after telling us repeatedly our group tab would be discounted, at the end of the day we received $3 off of a $500 tab! Terrible!

Stayed 2 nights got their breakfast and dinner, everything was great. Breakfast had good options and was buffet style for a decent price. Dinner was top notch, great service, friendly staff, quiet relaxed atmosphere. After a long day working and traveling this was a great spot to stop by. If you’re staying here do yourself a favor and step down for the food.

Not worth the $50 per person spent. Parents weekend and Montys was great for holding a reservation for 10 of us at 5:45pm. It wasnt all that busy and it was a limited menu but you would have thought it was their first day open. Drinks took 20 min to arrive, food took about an hour. Manager apologized and said he would comp part of the meal. Pimento cheese appetizer was good, but steak was terrible, fish was fine and brisket was an absolute joke. If we didnt have to rush out to catch a show I would have stayed to say something. Final cost $500. What was comped – 10% on the appetizers which amounted to a whopping $3. Manager needs to do better.

After a long drive, it was nice to settle in for a relaxing meal. I started with the broccoli and cheddar soup which was smooth and creamy. I then had the angel hair pasta which included very moist and tender grilled chicken, with a very tasty lemon caper sauce. My daughter had the caesar salad which had very tasty fried chicken. Service was friendly and helpful. Overall, a pleasant dining experience.

Ok, this is the restaurant inside hotel Madison.
For me, the prices are average. Portions are small. Service is clunky, it seems like a lot of college students who are learning. None of the food was great, but none was terrible. It’s a solid option if staying at the hotel. I think they could make this a lot better with a few adjustments. We ate the breakfast bar 2x. The eggs are really good, the meat was either over cooked or undercooked. Biscuits and gravy were good when fresh, but not not always fresh.

They need salt and pepper at all tables, ice available for the drinks, pastries and baked goods all seemed to have been sitting in plastic for a while. Again, just some feedback to hopefully make it better!

They really need to figure out some better situational set up for game day. It could have been A LOT better. It was difficult to order a drink in the lobby because the amount of people eating at the bar, when there is an empty restaurant next door.

Game day should really have a post game buffet in there. It would be a huge hit.

The staff were phenomenal and the food was amazing. Came in with 4 people and no reservations on a work trip and they seated us and served us in exceptional time.

Thought I’d support a local restaurant instead of a chain, and boy what a mistake. They asked if I wanted bar or table. I like bar, so I picked that. As soon as I got my beer, they started the dishwasher! I was going to order a steak, but not if I smell the dishwasher throughout the meal. But not to worry, without a word, the bartender took my menu away without ever taking my order! And then turns on the charm when it comes to a tip. Ugh! Stay away!

Nice atmosphere. Best two menu choices were unavailable on a friday night. Disappointed we had wanted to try the chef’s special. Servers were friendly, but needed to be more attentive. We had to get up and get our own salt, pepper, and cheese.

Made a reservation here for my birthday. After we were sat we waited almost 30 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we were there. (There was maybe 5 other tables in the section) our food came out before our drinks. The food was good! The service was not.

This place is outstanding! In a town full of culinary treasures this gem could be easily overlooked; it should not be overlooked. Stop in for a fine meal whether you are staying at Hotel Madison or not! I recommend the shrimp and grits, but be sure to check the specials for unique and well-crafted entrees.
