I had the chance to visit The Depot on Canal with a group of seven, and it turned out to be a great experience. The interior has a modern rustic vibe. Super high ceilings, black matte exposed HVAC, and wood beams that really give it that old train depot feel. The atmosphere was inviting and unique, especially for being in a small town.
The menu is surprisingly large and diverse: smash burgers, salads, pasta, seafood, even fried rice. I ordered the Smokehouse Smash Burger, a two-patty smash burger stacked with brisket and bacon between the patties, then topped with cheese and barbecue sauce. It came with seasoned fries and was incredibly flavorful. I also added a side salad with ranch, and I was honestly impressed. Everything was finely chopped, the lettuce was fresh, and the ranch was top-tier. For only $15 for the burger and $5 for the side salad, the whole meal felt like a steal.
Our server was friendly and attentive when checking on us. The one downside was table cleanup. Nothing got cleared during the meal, so we ended up stacking plates and tidying ourselves. With a big group and a mess of appetizers, it would’ve been nice to have a clean slate, especially before dessert. A fresh paper table cover swap would’ve been a great finishing touch.
Still, the food was great, the prices were fair, and the atmosphere really stood out.

We stayed over in Picayune, MS during a drive across the country for a night to get some rest after being locked up for hours on the road in a single cab truck with two dogs! While driving to our Airbnb we didn’t spot anything so we did a quick Yelp search and saw this place. While there weren’t any reviews just yet, the menu looked interesting and the photos looked good, so we thought we’d give it a go. Plus it was a two-block walk from our Airbnb and the thought of walking sounded great!
We got cocktails, Manhattan and Old Fashioned, and they were top-notch. The mixologist came and smoked the OF right at the table for us too! I’m not kidding when I say there were some damn fine drinks! So good, I had two!
For dinner, we started with the spicy seared tuna and French onion soup. The tuna was very fresh and seared perfectly. Love the wasabi cream and crisp wontons that came with it. The soup was brothy and savory. While the croutons looked like they probably came out of a bag, it was a great start to dinner.
For the mains, we opted for the carne asada tacos and the Mississippi Hobo with wasabi slaw and grilled veggies. Both were great! Cooked just as requested and the flavors were spot on.
My only regret was not having room for dessert!!
The staff was great as well. Definitely stop in this place if you get a chance.
