Lets Talk about Dixie’s !!!

Nothing to talk about… go!

The history… before you walk in the door is over whelming, the food was great and yes a smidge slow on the weekend but c’mon.. its well worth it.

From the seahawks signatures on the wall to the multiple pinboards in the dining area … so much for you to do and see while you wait. Also……

$25 for a dinner for two. Ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, beans, cole slaw, corn bread and lemon loaf. Took 2 of us 3 meals to finish it. Dixie is charming, but not as quick as she once may have been. Be patient, you will not be disappointed.

The man hot sauce is the real deal. The beef brisket was not. Sadly just tasted like a poorly cooked roast. No smoke flavor and very dry. Beans and rice were decent as a side. I hope they can turn things around.

Some good BBQ for Seattle. A family owned and run business that is a staple on the east side. The 520 or Dixie’s specials are my go to when I go here for lunch. Sweet tea and corn bread are good too. They now take credit cards so that makes things easier. I recommend trying the man sauce at least once. It is hot and an experience.

Those who have read my other reviews know how much I love BBQ and make it a staple on nearly every business trip. So, while in Seattle, we decided to try this highly recommended joint.

As many of the reviews for Dixie’s point out the service is a bit rude which is part of their ruse, but at least on this day it wasn’t all that noticeable to me. The service was extremely slow, but they do have a sign telling you this is not Mcdonalds and you will have to wait in line. Problem for me is there were literally 2 people in front of us and it still took 20 minutes to get food. Also beware, they only take cash. They may take local checks, but credit/debit cards are definitely not an option. I realize there are still some places like this, but come on, it’s the 21st century folks, so many people don’t even carry cash anymore.

As far as the food goes, it is average BBQ at best. I ordered the brisket and hot link sandwich. Turns out the hot link is really just a hot dog, very disappointing. I also heard all day about going to see the man, which is apparently this super hot sauce you can get on your BBQ. Unfortunately, there was no man to be found as they were out of this sauce today. Overall a disappointing BBQ experience, but Seattle is not supposed to be known for amazing BBQ, so maybe they should get a pass on this one.

So sad. I drove across town for BBQ. I’ve been coming here for 15 years. The man and daughter in front of me have been waiting 40 minutes with six people in front of them. I stood in line for 15 minutes and she hadn’t finished serving one meal. They need more help in here or let us serve ourselves the barbecue smelled lovely but I left without eating any. So sad.

Dixie Porter has been running this restaurant for over 22 years. I thinks she is in her 80s. So the restaurant is a little bit different style than some people might expect. The food is different. Old home cooking. See all the Louisiana references I’m guessing it’s from Louisiana home cooking. All the food may not be perfect and uniform like a fast food restaurant but it always tastes very good.

Lines are shorter than in the past, sadly. Food is good but not the same without Gene and prices are a little high. Man sauce is still very very hot, it can ruin your day if you get too daring, so use cation. Sweet tea is really good, get it.
