Saw a smoker going in the morning and gave it a try on the way home from a hike. They had run out of food which means it must be good.
The ribs were excellent and the beans were some of the best I’ve ever had. So flavorful and smoky.
The potato salad mixed the mark and the brisket was a little too fatty.

Cozy little spot! Friendly staff. Great food. Don’t let the negative reviews dissuade you. Ribs were delicious. Props to the pit master. We were just traveling through but if we were locals we would definitely be back! Very reasonably priced.

The BBQ at Sweitzers was nothing short of amazing. We were traveling to Oakland for the holiday weekend, and Sweitzers came highly recommended by the locals, and now we know why.
The rib meat was literally falling off the bone, see attached pics. My pulled pork sandwich was so flavorful and perfectly seasoned.
I was wondering if the sides would be as good as the meat, and they definitely did not disappoint! We shared the mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, and potatoe salad. All were fantastic.
The only thing better than the amazing food was the charming service by Michele. I think I’d come back just to see her. Not only was she exceedingly kind and helpful, but she was also simultaneously training a sweet new gal (who’s name I forgot, sorry). The entire town was so incredibly welcoming, it makes me dream of getting out of the city to visit small towns more often.
Make sure to stop by Sweitzers on your way through Oakland!

On a road trip did a quick stop and was very happy we did. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, The pull pork, baked beans and Mac and cheese were very good. I was very impressed with this BBQ restaurant. They do catering and large orders with notice. BBQ cooking on site. The limited hours are just how all the good BBQ places have. If you cook it they will come!

One of the best BBQs in the county which is not known for BBQ. Very friendly people. Minimal menu which is good. Limited hours. Generous pulled pork sandwiches but unfortunately sauced and served. Pit masters don’t sauce their BBQ except for MOP Sauce during the cook but serve the sauces on the side. No BBQ sauces here on the side. The sauce mixed into the pulled pork was meh. It Ruined what may have been good pork meat from the pit in front. Still eatable. Cold slaw was ok and could be taken to a higher level. Beans were the best – only very sweet. The Chicken and the Brisket are served without extra sauce and that is good. Pit BBQ Chicken and pit BBQ Brisket with just plain pit smoked flavors! I would like my favorite family recipe lemon based BBQ mop marinade with the chicken. I would also like to see homemade jalapeño cornbread. All in all lots of potential here at Sweitzer’s BBQ and I will go back. Hopefully they will just get better.

I own a house in Texas, LOTS of good BBQ options there!!! But let me tell you, Sweitzers BBQ is every bit as good as any BBQ I’ve ever had in Texas, if not BETTER!! I’ve been there twice, once I had the pulled pork sandwich and meal; and today I had the BBQ Brisket. Both were awesome!!! You want some good BBQ? GO TO SWEITZERS BBQ!!! – I guarantee you won’t regret it!!!!!

We had 19 family members over to celebrate Jesus birthday. We asked Sweitzer to cater food for last nights dinner. Our son is a Texas Barbaque snob. He took a look, and a bite and declared ‘This BBQ IS LEGIT!’ Everyone loved it from two year old in the high chair to our BBQ ‘experts!’

This is a MUST when I visit my parents in Garrett County, Maryland. Located on 3rd street (219) in Oakland, Maryland this establishment makes the best smoked/bbq chicken. The entree is a half chicken and includes your choice of 2 sides. We had the cucumber/tomato salad, and famous pasta salad. I know they have baked beans and potato salad. There are other side options. We also ordered some pepperoni rolls which are huge and have cheese in them. My parents love their baked steak and meatloaf. They have other entree options and desserts. They have a drive thru. The employees are so kind and helpful. We know they sometimes sell out of some entrees so we called around midday and reserved our chicken meals. You’ll want to check out their website and Facebook page because they close early (this was a Monday in June-they closed at 5). They also close for time in the summer and winter holidays. We were disappointed at Thanksgiving time when we couldn’t get food from there the weekend before Thanksgiving. We learned to check their online pages.

Absolute disappointment. We got the ribs; the first red flag should’ve been that they don’t make their own BBQ sauce, just a store-bought one. They were super expensive, 8 ribs ran us almost $30–you’d expect them to be good right? NO. They were horribly cooked, meat was full of fat, no rendered at all. The seasoning was weak—that’s an understatement. If I didn’t know any better I’d just think they dumped some sauce on at the end. No depth of flavor whatsoever. When asked if we were enjoying the meal, we politely expressed our disappointment, because the man asked. He proceeded to make excuses and not offer any replacement or refund. Just basically said “welp, you’re wrong, but thanks for coming!”. A disgrace to BBQ—STAY AWAY
