Had a wonderful time here for my birthday yesterday! Service and food were excellent, especially this tuna tar-tare Roxy-style with whipped avocado and caviar. The management also went out of their way to make my night, which I really appreciate. The Roxy continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in town!

There are a lot of places in Jersey City that say they do steak. I’ve eaten at all of them. This is the one.

The Roxy doesn’t shout. It doesn’t flex. It just quietly puts a perfect piece of beef in front of you and lets the work speak for itself. Deeply browned, unapologetically rich, cooked with confidence, not tricks. This is steak the way it’s supposed to be: honest, muscular, and deeply satisfying.

The first bite snapped me straight back to Quebec City, to that meal Anthony Bourdain had that made him pause mid-sentence, the kind of steak that reminds you why people ever bothered to cook meat over fire in the first place. In No Reservations, standing in the cold, old stone heart of Quebec, he said something close to this:

“Good food is very often, even most often, simple food.”

That’s the soul of this place.

I’ve eaten at that restaurant in Quebec City. I know that feeling, the quiet moment where the table disappears and all that’s left is you, the plate, and a deep sense of gratitude. The Roxy delivers that same experience, without pretension, without theater. Just respect for ingredients and for the person sitting in the chair.

What really seals it, though, is how personal it feels. This isn’t a factory. They notice you. They mark the occasion. A handwritten note. A moment made intentional. Dinner here isn’t just served, it’s acknowledged. You leave feeling seen.

If you care about steak, if you care about food that tells the truth, this is it.
Best steak in Jersey City. Full stop.

No noise. No bullshit. Just the real thing.

this is a great date night spot or even just a spot to enjoy a nice evening by yourself. it’s not too loud or crowded, at least on weekdays. the menu changes a lot so it’s always exciting to return and see what they have

the current menu is a little fish forward (which i don’t like) but i still found good food to try. i love how they play with different types of flavors and textures. the dishes are layered and far from one-note. the cocktails are also fun and have a unique spin to them

the staff is super friendly and welcoming too. the place is a little pricey but worth the splurge if you can afford it. wish they did brunch!

Update from February:

My below review was from an August visit. However, I recently returned and the food was fantastic. Definitely try their current menu. Order the mussels, kimchi potatoes and falafel!

So I was excited to try this place but it didn’t blow me away. I went in August so their menu is currently different. The octopus and lentils was overcooked and the sausage with it was burnt. The duck breast was good but a bit underwhelming since I think it needed citrus. The Halibut was fantastic and made me regret getting the Duck but the real star was the crispy duck fat potatoes! I would definitely try this place again. The service was good and they have good drinks.

I really wanted The Roxy to be a 5 star, as u love Corto. However, my honest thoughts are “not bad, not great”.
It is nice to have a cocktail option and The Roxy does a decent job with every drink option.
The appetizers were what stood out the most to me. Great Cobb salad and really good octopus apps.
The entrees, ehhh alright. We had falafel and lettuce wraps. Hate saying it, but I wouldn’t order again.

We were very excited to try The Roxy because we’ve been going to Corto for years and have had amazing food every visit! Unfortunately, The Roxy didn’t wow us as much as Corto.

I will start off with the bad and say our fish plate was full of bones and dangerous to eat. It seems like a pretty amateur mistake to not properly debone fish, especially for the price and sophistication of the place. We were also not offered to get it remade or removed from the bill.

The Chicken was very good but a little dry. The sauce definitely helped but the sauce was thick — like mashed potato consistency and not liquid. It would have been nice for the chicken to be a little juicier. The flavors were good though. The rice was kinda meh and crunchy and didn’t have any garlic flavor as advertised.

There also wasn’t a full vegetarian entree option which was disappointing because we don’t always want to eat meat or fish. Also almost every item had soy in it which I completely understand but I do have a soy intolerance so I was limited to the chicken on this menu as I was told nothing could be modified at the time. Even the butter with the bread appetizer was miso butter! The waitress did not understand why I just wanted regular butter with the bread and thought I was crazy.

The stars of the menu were the asparagus and Hollandaise and the scallion potato pancake. We could have eaten 10 plates! Very delicious and full of rich flavor.

The desserts were also fantastic and made our meal better! I would go just for dessert and wine to be honest.

Overall, since the menu changes we would go back and try new things but would avoid any fish. This is a great low-key date night spot.

Fantastic! I recently visited Corto and as soon as I heard Roxy was its sister, I had to go, I was not disappointed! They nail the balance of flavors in every dish. Plating is beautiful. Nothing is too much or too little. Cocktails are perfectly crafted. Great all around! Highly recommend.

Finally got a chance to try The Roxy and it did not disappoint! Started with the scallion potato, hakurei turnip, and seared mushrooms. Then shared the whole sea bream. Ended with passion fruit ice cream and toasted sesame flan. I can’t even choose a favorite dish and our server gave great recommendations. Would definitely go back to try more on their menu!

Very excited about this new addition to the neighborhood. Dishes are unique, portions are large, and everything was very good. Wasn’t a huge fan of the chocolate flourless cake as it was a bit dry, but the cheesecake was delicious so I think we just caught them on an off
day for that dessert. Drinks were strong and not too sweet. Rodger provided great service and recommendations.

I definitely recommend eating here before it becomes impossible to find a reservation.

We’re thrilled to have discovered this new restaurant in Jersey City. The food was both outstanding and distinctive. I tried the Maria Clara cocktail, which surprised me with its unique and delightful flavors. Beyond the amazing meal, the service was warm and attentive. Altogether, it was a truly memorable experience. We arrived early and by the time we left the restaurant was full and we weren’t surprised. Highly recommend.
