The dinner was FANTASTIC!!! The brisket was so tender that it just fell apart with a fork. The potato cakes were out of this world. It was just two people cooking and serving. With that patrons patiently waited their turns to be seated and served…the food was that amazing. The seating area has a cool 80’s goth eclectic vibe that goes hand in hand with the owner/cooks personality & genre. Dog friendly with even items on the menu for a four legged fur child. There is outdoor seating with also a bar style table that overlooks highway 17 and the Davis Mountains. Just a wonderful roadside treat.

Great find!!! Limited hours.
The daily special — rib meat tacos with rice and beans was delicious. We also ordered the smoked deviled eggs which were great.
Ambiance — inside is nice with comfortable chairs. We ate outside…. With cloth napkins AND real silverware!!! And a view of the Davis Mountains.
Service — excellent

Funky little spot we have done a couple of times now.
Coming from central Texas we are pretty spoiled on the world’s best BBQ and the BBQ here does not disappoint. A little different than Austin area BBQ but very good.
What people should be talking about is the Banana Pudding. Dear God, it is the best banana pudding I have ever shoved in my pie hole and believe me, I have had my fair share of Banana Pudding. Kinda lighter and fluffier than most and it is absolutely perfect. You could make a meal out of it.

I wanted to give this place 5 stars, but… So, the atmosphere was great, but small. The size probably works for the size of town, but I could see it get packed during peak tourism periods. The service was great with a true family feel. It felt like home or at least visiting that cool aunt. I say aunt, because I think the owner is a lady that is there daily. Now as to the food, I’m on the fence. So, the brisket was fork cutting tender, but I did not seem to get a lot of smoke flavor off it. The BBQ sauce is not my preference, but it was the owner’s recipe, and I do recommend it. They had several local sides too that you will see in the photos. The pintos were bland for me. If they had dropped some of the sausage in it, the beans would have rocked. I liked the sausage, potatoes and the fresh bread. Oh, get the cookies. They were awesome! Yes, I did take a picture in the bathroom. What? The sign was funny…

Having experienced the bbq featured in Texas Monthly back in the 70s, the folks have taken the family recipes and ramped up the flavour with fantastic sides such the famous funeral potatoes, elote and frijoles! The bbq is absolutely delicious and well worth a two hour drive to get there. Highly recommend this local treasure, as it will not disappoint!!!

Speak easy BBQ restaurant. The food was amazing. Pulled brisket, cucumber salad, roasted corn, potato salad, beans, and the chocolate pie was delicious. Of course we couldn’t finish it so dinner will be delicious.

Excellent option in Ft Davis! Unassuming digs on the north end of town, with funky cool interior and shaded outside dining with nice views.
Fantastic friendly service at the counter and bringing food, tea outside.
Brisket serving was moist and generous with a nice bark; pork ribs Excellent, fall-off-the-bone but not mushy with a wonderfully spicy bark; sausage just kinda meh (Ekrich?); generous sides, definitely recommend the elote corn.
Great find on your West Texas wanders.
