When Googling “steak house” on Google Maps this gem appeared in what I would consider is the middle of nowhere, in a small town, and is swinging for the fences with the fare they’re trying to offer. Outside of Leavenworth I’ve not seen so many options for schnitzel at one restaurant before. Just take a look at the menu on their site describing loads of options. My S.O. and I ordered the jalapeno poppers and the Cajun calamari for appetizers. Both were as the rating suggests, average. The sauces that were included are good. For entrees I ordered the schnitzel cordon bleu which came with fried potatoes, pan fried zucchini, cranberry compote and hollandaise sauce. The entrees also come with a Caesar salad by default. No one part was bad but none of it stood out as remarkable. My S.O. ordered the New York. Her steak was cooked to order correctly and included the same sides except she got mashed potatoes. She had ordered a side of bearnaise sauce which never came or was given hollandaise mistakenly. Most of the food tasted prepared from a frozen source or at least outside vendor. As far as the atmosphere goes they were playing classical opera music for the dining room and you could hear the kitchen staff’s contemporary rock music playing in the background as well making for an interesting dining experience.

I enjoyed an afternoon, happy hour, beer and appetizer on the bar side. It was quite enjoyable, and the service was great. It is so much fun to go into places that have so much rich, character, and tradition, and they don’t try to update and change everything into modern decor. This place so much reminds me of going to dinner with my grandparents when I was a child. Coming from a German background, I can say that the food looks very authentic. I can’t wait to go for a nice formal dinner here sometime soon.

After a long, exhausting day on the job, I found myself craving a quiet place to relax, have a cold beer, and recharge a bit. I ended up at Herb Niemann’s Steak House, and what I expected to be just a quick stop turned into one of the most unexpectedly meaningful evenings I’ve had in a long time.

The moment I walked in, I could feel the warmth of the place — the kind of old-school charm and genuine hospitality that feels harder and harder to find these days. The food was exactly what you’d hope for at the end of a long day — hearty, well-prepared, and made with care. But what really made the visit memorable wasn’t just the meal. It was Angel, the owner.

By pure chance, Angel and I struck up a conversation while I was enjoying my beer at the bar. As we talked, I quickly realized she wasn’t just running a restaurant — she was putting her heart into building a genuine sense of community in our little town. As a fellow small business owner, that really hit home.

She shared a bit about her journey, the ups and downs of running a local business, and her deep love for this town and the people in it. It was clear she’s not just here to serve meals — she’s here to help build something lasting. Before I left, she even invited me to join the local Chamber of Commerce, encouraging me to get more involved in the efforts to support and connect with others working hard to make this town thrive. Not only that I also meet one of the kitchen staff, who made my meal right before I got into my car, (he was taking a break) and I was able gave him a hug and a thank you for the delicious meal!

That kind of gesture — genuine, welcoming, and rooted in community spirit — is rare and deeply appreciated. It reminded me why I chose to build my business here in the first place.

If you’re ever in the area and want more than just a good steak — if you want to feel like you belong somewhere, even just for a night — Herb Niemann’s Steak House is the place to go. You’ll find comfort, great food, and maybe even a meaningful connection or two.

I’ll definitely be back — not just for another meal, but to continue supporting a place (and people) that’s making a real difference.

This is a spot where we used to eat often so we’re excited to go again we were SO disappointed tonight! We ordered the Weiner Schnitzel, which is the same thing I had always ordered in the past. We wondered why the meat didn’t taste the same and the texture was weird. When I got home and has light to see, I opened the leftover box to investigate I pulled off the substantial breading. The “veal” was a disgusting piece of processed “chunked and formed” meat! It looked as if it were pre seasoned as well. No wonder it tasted so strange! The potatoes were overcooked and mushy and the Brussels weren’t great either. We usually love the red cabbage,, it too was overcooked annd really sweet All in all an extremely disappointing experience. It has changed hands and the quality has gone down,we will not be back.

Food is decently good, portions are good. I would come back for the vibes – the interior decor of this place is so interesting to be in. It gets busy though, make reservations!

Good atmosphere with option to sit on the friendly local bar side of of the resturant, or on the classy date / family gathering side.

Great menu, everything i’ve had is quite possibly the best quality food you can get short of grandmas cooking. Ive got a big appitite and this is the only place ive left with leftovers.

Service is great, a refreshing reprieve from typical rude resturant / bar staff. You can tell owner is present and attentive and that they have a staff happy to be here and do their jobs.

One of the best resturants in the area and Best American style food hands down.

This was our special occasion restaurant for over 30 years. If you used to go here, don’t you will be very disappointed. Food is dried out cutlet of leather! Never had shrimp in a very good sauce that were like little rocks among good shrimp. The care and quality is gone! German potatoes was just a pile of badly cooked fried potatoes and dumped on the plate. Goulash was excellent though. Sauce is as good as ever. Never again after all these years.
I am adding to my review since I can not respond to your lame answer! You want a customer to stand up in your restaurant on my wifes birthday and state that this is the worst meal I have ever had! Because you are to busy to put out quality meal . Your responses have at least been consistent that it is not your fault! I assume that the two owners last night were the two loudest people in the restaurant. Try to supervise the meals that are coming out of your kitchen!
